Hurricanes v Chiefs - Live
Full time Hurricanes 12 Chiefs 17
80 Chris Smylie is pinned for being offside at a scrum. Cruden boots the ball into touch and that's the final act of the half. It's a crucial win for the visitors, who consolidate their position at the top of the New Zealand conference table. In the end, the atrocious conditions meant that little entertaining rugby was played and ultimately the game's only try by Tanerau Latimer proved decisive.
77 The 'Canes are still chasing the game and set up several phases before taking the ball wide to Savea. He has little space and is tackled into touch by Bundee Aki.
74 Tikoirotuma is pinned for a ruck infringement and Barrett kicks for touch. His effort is a good one which travels for about 45 metres before going into touch inside the visitors' 22.
71 PENALTY, HURRICANES, BARRETT! 12-17. Barrett punishes Tameifuna's indiscretion and brings his side to within five points of taking the lead!
70 YELLOW CARD, CHIEFS, TAMEIFUNA! Referee Lourens van der Merwe sends Ben Tameifuna to the sin bin after he plays the ball at a ruck in front of his try-line!
69 Reynold Lee-Lo makes a break inside the Chiefs' 22 and throws an inside pass. Unfortunately for him Charlie Ngatai gathers but is forced to touch down behind his own try-line.
68 The Hurricanes have a chance to attack at a line-out, on the Chiefs' 22-metre line. This after the visitors' front row is penalised for illegal scrummaging.
65 There's some concern as Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, who hasn't been on the field that long, stays down after taking the ball into contact. He is eventually forced to leave the field with what looks like a serious leg injury.
63 The Hurricanes are trying desperately to get back into this game! They're running the ball from all areas but it's difficult to retain possession in such difficult conditions.
60 Cruden gets a chance to extend the visitors' lead, after Shields is pinned for playing Kerr-Barlow off the ball. The All Blacks pivot's effort is off target, however.
58 Brad Shields breaks past the Chiefs defence but Vant leven makes a desperate tackle to halt his progress! He would've been through under the sticks but for that tackle!
55 TRY, CHIEFS, LATIMER! 9-17. The Chiefs charge down an attempted clearance from Perenara and Kerr-Barlow is quickest to react. He sets off on a run and offloads to Tanerau Latimer who gets in for the game's opening try!
53 Van Leven is penalised for a high tackle on Tim Bateman. Barrett puts the resulting penalty into touch inside the Chiefs' 22.
47 Now it's Kerr-Barlow's team to slip up in the wt conditions. He knocks on a pass from Vant Leven, at the base of a scrum, close to his try-line!
44 Tanerau Latimer is penalised for obstruction. Barrett kicks for touch and puts the ball out inside the Chiefs' 22.
42 Perenara tries to get his back-line moving but knocks due to the slippery conditions.
40 Barrett gets the second half started with a deep kick which Tikoirotuma gathers inside his 22. He is soon swamped by several Hurricanes defenders.
Half-time Hurricanes 9 Chiefs 12
40 Perenara holds onto the ball on the ground and Cruden takes a shot at goal from about five metres inside his half. His effort falls about five metres short and the Canes put the ball into touch. That's the end of the half and the players head into the sheds. The rainy weather has limited both sides' attacking abilities. Both sides have resorted too much more kicking than usual. It should continue in this vein after the break as it's highly unlikely that the weather will improve.
38 Kerr-Barlow tries to gather a bomb from Barret but takes his eyes off the ball and knocks on!
36 PENALTY, CHIEFS, CRUDEN! 9-12. Cruden puts the Chiefs back in front after another ruck infringement from the hosts' forwards.
35 Barrett is penalised, when he goes off his feet at a ruck, and Robinson plays quickly! He makes little progress but offloads to Tikoirotuma, who is tackled by Vito. Wrong decision by Robinson in these conditions!
33 PENALTY, HURRICANES, BARRETT! 9-9. Barrett draws the 'Canes level after Liam Messam is penalised for an off--the-ball incident with Perenara.
30 Robinson sees a gap behind the Hurricanes' backs and puts in a cross-kick which rolls out inside the hosts' 22. Advantage Chiefs!
27 Matt Vant Leven charges down a clearance kick from Barrett, inside the 'Canes' 22 and regathers! He sets off towards the try-line! He crosses the whitewash but puts a foot in touch after a desperate tackle from Jason Eaton and Barrett.
25 Barrett launches a cross-kick which Alapati Leiua gathers. He has little room to move as Tikoirotuma keeps him in check.
22 Tawera Kerr-Barlow breaks from a scrum inside his 22 and spots a gap behind the 'Canes' defence. He kicks ahead and the ball rolls out just inside the hosts' 22.
20 PENALTY, CHIEFS, CRUDEN! 6-9. Cruden succeeds with another three-pointer after Faifili Levave is blown up for playing the ball on the ground.
17 PENALTY, HURRICANES, BARRETT! 6-6. Barrett draws his side level after Tanerau Latimer is penalised for not rolling away after making a tackle.
14 It's raining which means there's plenty of kicking out there at the moment. Perenara launches a bomb which Tikoirotuma gathers. He makes little progress and is jockeyed into touch by Alapati Leiua.
13 Barrett stabs through a grubber kick which touches Tikoirotuma and rolls into touch inside the Chiefs' 22.
11 PENALTY, CHIEFS, CRUDEN! 3-6. Cruden adds another two-pointer after the Chiefs are pinned for playing the ball on the ground at a ruck.
9 The Chiefs do well to take the ball through several phases and are soon inside the Hurricanes' 22. Brodie Retallick and Ben Afeaki are both prominent for the visitors.
8 Robbie Robinson slips out of a tackle and sets off on a run! He offloads to Tikoirotuma, who kicks ahead but Barrett manages to dot down behind his try-line.
6 PENALTY, CHIEFS, CRUDEN! 3-3. Cruden draws his side level after the 'Canes are pinned for a ruck infringement.
3 PENALTY, HURRICANES, BARRETT! 3-0. Beauden Barrett gets the game's first points, from the kicking tee, after Asaeli Tikoirotuma is pinned for an off-the-ball challenge on Julian Savea.
2 Robbie Robinson takes the ball into contact but is nailed by a big hit from TJ Perenara!
Kick-off Aaron Cruden gets us underway! his kick is gathered by Victor Vito who is caught in possession, inside his 22, by several Chiefs forwards.
Team News The Hurricanes have announced an unchanged line-up for this encounter. Due to the absence of captain and centre Conrad Smith due to concussion, number eight Victor Vito will once again be the stand-in 'Canes captain. In a personal milestone, blindside flanker Faifili Levave will make his 50th appearances for the Hurricanes.
Team News Chiefs openside flanker Same Cane is ruled out of this clash with a back strain and is replaced by Tanerau Latimer. Coach Dave Rennie has also made one change to his front-row with Pauliasi Manu starting at loosehead. Amongst the backs, Charlie Ngatai joins Bundee Aki in midfield. Nick Crosswell makes his return from injury on the bench and is joined by Save Tokula.

Phil Edwards explains why England's World Cup dreams will not be over if they lose their next two games
If England are to have any chance of launching a successful assault on the Everest that is next year's World Cup, then the widespread feeling seems to be that they simply have to win their next two games.
Highlights of all the Pro12 action, including Ulster's win over the Ospreys and Treviso's draw with Leinster.
It has been fairly even between Ireland and Australia in the last six meetings, three wins to Australia, two Irish victories and a draw, but recent form comes down in Ireland’s favour, with eight wins from nine contrasting to Australia's three victories in nine.
