Full time HURRICANES 44-49 HIGHLANDERS
80 Final 30 seconds now as the Hurricanes look for the winning try. Marshall skips a tackle as the hooter sounds, final play... and the Highlanders win the penalty! That's the game! What a thriller in Wellington - 11 tries, 93 points. Unbelievable.
78 Highlanders win a crucial lineout just outside their 22. Tanaka directing play as the visitors tick down the clock. Into the final two minutes, but that's too slow and the Canes have a scrum inside the opposition 22
78 Highlanders win a crucial lineout just outside their 22. Tanaka directing play as the visitors tick down the clock. Into the final two minutes, but that's too slow and the Canes have a scrum inside the opposition 22.
76 PENALTY, HURRICANES, BARRETT! 44-49: Barrett takes the three to put the Canes in range for two losing bonus points, but the way they're going they could win this. Time running out.
74 YELLOW CARD, HIGHLANDERS, MURRAY! Hurricanes are still going down the left-hand side! Highlanders penalised for going offside, two penalties in about 20 seconds and now that's another yellow card! Bronson Murray the guilty party.
71 TRY, HURRICANES, BROADHURST! 41-49: Hurricanes now with the try bonus point but trying to get back within seven. Huge numbers on the right as Broadhurst stretches and gets it down! Was he held? Try is given regardless.
68 TRY, HURRICANES, SMYLIE! 34-49: Restart taken by Thrush putting the Canes back on the front foot, winning the penalty and kicking into the corner. Pressure on the line as Hore looks to have made the turnover... but it's a nightmare! From the bottom of the ruck he flicks it up into the air on his own try line, Smylie pouncing to dot down!
66 TRY, HIGHLANDERS, DIXON! 27-49: Pure brilliance from TJ Ioane! Steps and bursts through the defence before delivering a perfect no-look pass to Dixon who canters under the posts. One-two punch from the Highlanders there.
64 TRY, HIGHLANDERS, GEAR! 27-42: Momentum has well and truly swung in Wellington as the Canes press forward again. Highlanders win the ball back though as Poki breaks. Gear skips a tackle from Lam and He. Is. Gone! One-on-one with Barrett and he barged past him for the try! Parker converts.
61 Ball squirts out of the scrum in the Hurricanes favour. Kick through from C.Smith, Savea putting Poki under pressure and the wing is forced to ground the ball after carrying it back over the line. Five metre scrum to the Canes.
58 TRY, HURRICANES, SAVEA! 27-35: Game on! Wonderful pass from Shields releases Savea down the left wing - now the Canes only trail by eight! Can they complete the comeback?
56 TRY, HURRICANES, FRANKS! 20-35: Canes scrum five out - Vito's pass is poor but still in possession. Numbers out on the left but Lam straightens, Smith from deep onto Marshall. Wide and Franks is in! Another try to the Canes down in the right corner.
54 YELLOW CARD, HIGHLANDERS, A.SMITH! Too many discrepancies near their own line and Aaron Smith goes to the bin.
53 Hurricanes throwing everything at the Highlanders here, but the ball is lost forward! Huge defence from the visitors despite their enormous lead.
50 C.Smith with a break for the Canes and the ball gets to Savea in space, onto Marshall. Canes up to the five-metre line and trying to find a breakthrough here. Another penalty, opt for the lineout and maul.
47 Barrett's restart goes straight out into touch, so a Highlanders scrum right on half-way. Canes back in possession and C.Smith's kick is tricky but well gathered by Poki.
46 PENALTY, HIGHLANDERS, SLADE! 13-35: Another fine strike from the All Black who has missed just one all night.
45 Canes pinged for hands in the ruck right inside their own 22. Needless penalty that one, Slade going for the posts.
43 Nasty collision in mid-air as Slade chases a kick, colliding with the boot of Proctor in the air! Slade slow to get up understandably and concern over a concussion, but he's up and about again. Highlanders scrum just inside the Canes half.
40 Second half underway in Wellington with the Hurricanes on the attack. Legal turnover by Woodcock at the breakdown, or so it seems as the Canes nick the ball back. Inside ball to Leiua, building the phases until the Highlanders win the penalty after the Canes fail to release. Slade clears to touch.
40 Hurricanes 13 - 32 Highlanders
40 TRY, HIGHLANDERS, POKI! 13-32: Hurricanes pinned back to their own five-metre line, and win the penalty for having a man tackled in the air. Barrett clears to touch on his own 10-metre line. Ball lost by Thrush so the Highlanders have one last chance following that knock-on, good work by Bekhuis. Solid scrum, Gear in off the wing and a long pass out wide to Poki, who gasses his man on the outside for the try! Poor tackling but a great finish, that's the Highlanders' bonus point! Excellent first-half from the visitors.
38 TRY, HURRICANES, DIXON! 13-27: Just about enough contact with the line there from Dixon, who notches up his first try in Super Rugby. Canes back within 14.
36 Splintered scrum through the middle but the ball is there. Another advantage, this time for offside, so the Canes with another chance for points. C.Smith taps and goes, two metres out now. Dixon dives for the line... upstairs to the TMO.
33 Savea charging round the corner but that defensive line still holds firm for the Highlanders. Half-gap for Broadhurst, onto Barrett. Vito now into the 22 in a rare line break. Wide all the way to Lowe on the left touchline. Big chance for the Canes, Barrett steps but is just short. Advantage being played, Canes opt for the scrum under the posts.
30 Lost forward by May in the tackle, so the Highlanders get the scrum just on their 22-metre line. Messy but the Highlanders clear for Marshall to run it back. C.Smith with a step but there aren't many spaces, and the Highlanders win the penalty at the breakdown, Dixon excelling.
27 Canes way off the pace in this one but looking to rattle back, building an attack on the Highlanders 22. Loose ball at the base as the defensive line holds. Poor pass and Levave knocks on, Highlanders hacking clear before Savea runs it back with interest and we start again.
24 TRY, HIGHLANDERS, A.SMITH! 6-27: Hurricanes lineout 40 metres out, lost ball and then the Canes go offside. Highlanders lineout in an attacking position. Rolling maul gets going with Dixon in possession at the back - away he bursts and feeds A.Smith on his inside! That's the Highlanders' third score! Fine stuff.
22 PENALTY, HIGHLANDERS, SLADE! 6-20: Visitors now 14 points clear in front, dominant first half for the men from Dunedin.
20 Advantage to the Highlanders as the Hurricanes go offside, opting for the scrum in the Canes 22. Hurricanes not straight at that scrum and Slade will have a shot.
17 TRY, HIGHLANDERS, ELLISON! 6-17: Two in two minutes! A.Smith's low pass is picked up by Slade who hits the gap, chips over the top with plenty of backspin and Perenara misses the ball! Easy pick up for Ellison who dives over. Slade converts.
15 TRY, HIGHLANDERS, TUIALI'I! 6-10: Deep kick pins the Hurricanes back down by their own five-metre line. Solid lineout and Barrett clears high but not far, but gathers his own kick. Second kick goes long into the opposite 22, Slade jinking and finding Gear in space. Afterburners are on and Gear is away through four tackles, onto Woodcock, to TUIALI'I! Try to the visitors! All started by Slade and Gear. Slade converts.
14 PENALTY, HURRICANES, BARRETT! 6-3: Hurricanes in front for the first time as Barrett lands his second shot of the night.
13 Hurricanes pressing forward - Highlanders with another high tackle. Savea slips a tackle and finds Lee-Lo, but we're coming back for the penalty.
11 Knocked on by Marshall, so a five-metre scrum to the Highlanders under their own posts. Penalty to the visitors and they clear to just about to the edge of their 22.
9 Loose passage of play ends with Slade being charged down by Marshall, who chases the ball towards the try line. Competing with about three Highlanders, the ball kicks off the post back towards him as he slides... upstairs to the TMO.
7 PENALTY, HURRICANES, BARRETT! 3-3: Straight over from the young fly-half, we're level.
6 High tackle on Lee-Lo so the Hurricanes win a penalty inside Highlanders' territory. Barrett lining up the shot at goal.
4 Bit of space for Savea who combines with Smith, taking the Hurricanes up to half-way. Slow ball so Smith pokes a kick through and Poki gets caught out, Hurricanes back in possession but Levave's pass is poor and goes into touch.
2 PENALTY, SLADE, 0-3! The Highlanders lead in Wellington thanks to Colin Slade's well-taken effort.
1 Here we go then with the Highlanders kicking off before James Marshall clears down the middle of the park. Unfortunately for him his team-mates didn't retreat from his kick so it's a Highlanders penalty.
Team news Alapati Leiua and Faifili Levave are back in the 'Canes XV this week while the Highlanders bring in Liam Coltman for Andrew Hore at hooker. TJ Ioane is in for the suspended Jarrad Hoeata at blindside.
Welcome Hello and welcome to the first live coverage of this special day in rugby. Super Rugby kicks us off with a game between the Hurricanes and Highlanders in Wellington. It should be a cracking game that sees Beauden Barrett, Conrad Smith and Julian Savea against Ben Smith, Tamati Ellison and Brad Thorn.
