Toulon v Cardiff Blues - Live
FULL-TIME: TOULON 43-20 CARDIFF BLUES
80 CONVERSION, TOULON, WILKINSON! 43-20 Wilkinson rounds things off with conversion number four; the whistle sounds the end of this clash. Hard one to take for the Blues, but three penalty tries have sent the champions into the next round of the Heineken Cup.
80 TRY, TOULON, PENALTY! 41-20 Third penalty try as the scrum heads for the sticks. Bonus point secured for the hosts; they're into the quarter finals.
80 Penalty number four by my count on the Blues' five metre line. It's a tap and go. One minute to play. Yet ANOTHER penalty for Toulon as Copeland strays offside, and he is the third Cardiff player in the bin.
78 The rumble and the roll takes the champions to within a metre of a five-point win, and they have another penalty. Scrum called.
76 Toulon pressing for the bonus point again, they have a penalty five metres out. Wilkinson goes to the corner after some debate.
74 Final stages here in Nice, things just petering out as both teams make a barrage of substitutes.
72 CONVERSION, CARDIFF BLUES, HALFPENNY! The full-back slots from out wide
71 TRY, CARDIFF BLUES, ELLIS JENKINS! 36-18 Jenkins bundles over for a Blues try.
69 Brace of penalties for the visitors five metres from the Toulon 22; bizarrely, no yellow card shown by Mr Garner. Davies punts out at the corner.
67 Blues building some phases in midfield, breaking down the home defence nicely with Halfpenny and Cuthbert looking sharp.
64 Blues clear downfield, Toulon lineout on halfway.
60 A bit of aerial ping-pong gives the Blues possession in their own 22, but they kick out on the full.
58 Toulon pressing for the bonus point try, but Giteau loses possession in the tackle five metres out. Ellis Jenkins returning for the visitors, who are now back up to their full compliment.
56 Yet another Toulon scrum penalty, Wilkinson kicks down into the 22.
55 The razzle-dazzle in this Toulon side is well and truly on show, now. Bourrust is back on the pitch for the Blues, who find themselves facing a tough final twenty-five minutes.
52 TRY, TOULON, SMITH! This game is over. The flood gates have well and truly opened as the Blues are reduced to 13 men. Good vision from Wilkinson to exploit the space out wide, and Smith powers over for try number three. Toulon absolutely flying now.
49 CONVERSION, TOULON, WILKINSON! 29-13 No problems for Wilkinson once more.
48 TRY, TOULON, PENALTY! 27-13 Second penalty try for Toulon as the driving maul powers through and is collapsed by Ellis Jenkins - who is binned for his troubles.
46 CONVERSION, TOULON, WILKINSON! 22-13 Simple two points for Wilkinson.
44 TRY, TOULON, PENALTY! 20-13 Scrum again for Toulon, and there's only one outcome here. Armitage dots down, but Greg Garner was already on his way under the posts. Big blow for the hosts.
43 Monstrous scrum from Toulon, marching forwards at speed, and Bourrust is sin-binned having already been warned by Greg Garner. Second yellow for the Blues, and the champs smell blood.
42 Hobbs on for Gethin Jenkins for the Blues, and a huge error from Leigh Halfpenny, who drops a bread and butter pass in his own 22. Scrum Toulon, 10 metres out.
41 We're back underway here in Nice, Wilkinson kicking off.
HALF-TIME: TOULON 15-13 CARDIFF BLUES
40 Spilled forward in the tackle; the half-time whistle blows, and the Blues can be pleased with their efforts in Nice so far. The penalty count has been their downfall in the first half, with five Jonny Wilkinson penalties cancelling out a fine try from Filo Paulo. All to play for in the second forty.
40 Jenkins stays on, though, and the Blues have a lineout on halfway with the clock about to go red.
40 Gethin Jenkins looking in trouble here, down receiving medical attention. Ankle looks like the problem.
39 PENALTY, TOULON, WILKINSON! 15-13 Toulon back in front with Wilkinson's fifth penalty.
38 Another Toulon penalty in the away 22. Wilkinson looking to regain the lead for the hosts.
37 The Blues looking to control possession, but are penalised inside Toulon territory for not releasing. Wilkinson punts downfield amid a strangely subdued Nice atmosphere.
35 CONVERSION, CARDIFF BLUES, HALFPENNY! 12-13 Halfpenny gives his side the lead from the touchline with a superb kick. Great stuff from Cardiff.
35 TRY, CARDIFF BLUES, PAULO! 12-11 What a turnaround! Mitchell chases back a long Blues kick, but his clearance is half charged-down, gathered by Copeland, and the number eight offloads to Paulo who crashes over through two tackles. Great power from the second-row!
33 PENALTY, TOULON, WILKINSON! 12-6 No problem for Wilkinson, penalty number four.
33 Another Toulon penalty as Czekaj strays offside. Wilkinson can extend the lead to six points almost straight after his last kick. 40 metres out, right of centre.
31 PENALTY, TOULON, WILKINSON! 9-6 Toulon are back in the lead as Wilkinson slots from the left-hand-side.
29 Penalty coming for Toulon as the forwards march for the line - we'll go back to the 22 as Paulo collapsed the maul. Wilkinson going for three points.
27 Another penalty for the hosts inside their own half, Wilkinson goes for territory and finds touch on the Blues 22.
25 Scrum penalty for Toulon, but Wilkinson's effort drifts wide from long range.
23 Just a bit scrappy from Toulon here. Wilkinson's loose pass rescued by the hulking Bastareaud, and Giteau kicks out on the full. Lineout Cardiff on halfway
21 But penalised for holding on, good breakdown defence from the Blues.
20 Error from the Blues, though, as they fail to cleanly gather the restart. Toulon in possession on the 22, using the pack to grind their way forward.
18 PENALTY, CARDIFF BLUES, HALFPENNY! 6-6 Fine strike from the full-back, and the scores are level.
17 Penalty again for the Blues, some forty metres out, and Halfpenny will step up again. Czekaj back on, and the visitors looking much more controlled. They've taken the sting out of the Toulon attacking verve well.
16 Toulon showing their teeth once more; this time the ball is swept right, the overlap is there, but the crucial pass to Bastareaud from Smith goes out of play. Blues driving play up to their own 10m line before Davies hoists downfield.
14 PENALTY, CARDIFF BLUES, HALFPENNY! The Lions Man of the Series steps up to put the Welsh region on the board.
12 The Blues have it back, and their first chance to put the champions under pressure. Putting some good phases together on the edge of the home 22. They have the penalty as Armitage fails to release post-tackle. Halfpenny going for three points on the 22, left of centre.
10 Toulon come roaring forward again after smart hands from Bastareaud, but the ball is spilled forward. Blues clear, but Toulon field Davies' up and under, and the champions run the ball out from their own 22.
8 PENALTY, TOULON, WILKINSON! 6-0 Looked a harsh decision to yellow-card the Blues winger, but Wilkinson steps up and doubles Toulon's lead.
7 Czekaj sin-binned for stripping the ball from Wulf on the ground
5 Toulon win a penalty and take play up to the visitors' 10m line. Powerful running in midfield.
3 PENALTY, TOULON, WILKINSON! 3-0 Big start for the hosts as Wilkinson knocks over the three points
1 Gareth Davies gets us underway, and Toulon immediately come storming forward through Joe van Nieker and Rudi Wulf to win a penalty.
Gethin Jenkins makes his Heineken Cup bow for the season, while second-row Chris Dicomidis is recalled to the pack. Harry Robinson misses out with a leg injury, replaced by Chris Czekaj, but British and Irish Lions Leigh Halfpenny and Sam Warburton start.
Jonny Wilkinson skippers Toulon today, who field a typically star-studded lineup that includes the likes of Drew Mitchell, Juan Smith and Bakkies Botha. They slipped to a shock home defeat to plucky Grenoble in the Top14 a week ago, and the future of boss Bernard Laporte could well rest on how his side defends their European title.
Hello, and welcome to the Allianz Riviera for a crucial Heineken Cup pool clash between champions Toulon and Cardiff Blues. Cardiff are fresh off the back of three wins in this tournament, having beaten Toulon when the sides last met at the Arms Park, and doing the double over Glasgow Warriors. But the hosts don't lose many on their own patch, dispatching both Exeter Chiefs and the Warriors with considerable aplomb already. Kick-off is ten minutes away, don't go anywhere!
