Blue Bulls v Golden Lions - Live
The full time score is 23-62 to the Lions. The second half was pure entertainment from the visitors as they seemed to score at will once Morne Mellet was yellow carded. This is definitely a night to forget as a Bulls player and spectator. As a Lions fan, you'll be wanting to save this match to your decoder and watch it again and again and again. Willie Britz has been awarded the man of the match award for his strong performance but really the award could have gone to several players. Minnie, Boshoff and Volmink all had equally good games tonight.
80 They were playing with advantage and take a tap to try finish the night with a try. They lose possession which brings an end to the game! Lions are victors in amazing fashion over the Bulls!
79 Bulls show some signs of actually playing some decent rugby as they work their way into the Lions 22m. The TMO is called into action again as the Bulls go over! The replay shows that the ball was lost forward.
76 CONVERSION, LIONS, BOHOFF, 23-62. Boshoff again with a successful conversion.
75 TRY!, LIONS, JANTJIES, 23-60. Jantjies puts a well weighted chip kick over the Bulls defense for Volmink to collect. Volmink waits for Jantjies to catch up and unselfishly hands him the ball to score the try. This is incredible stuff from the Lions.
71 CONVERSION, LIONS, BOSHOFF, 23-55. Naturally, Boshoff slots the kick.
71 TRY! LIONS, TECKLENBURG, 23-53. The try has been given and this is becoming a disastrous night for the Bulls. This is the fifth try for the Lions this half as they take their tally past 50. They really seem to be scoring at will right now!
71 Another TMO decision required here. The Lions set up the maul and drive strongly before Tecklenburg bursts free to score. TMO checking for any infringements during the maul.
70 Bulls not looking like the world class side that they are. They concede another penalty and Elton Jantjies finds touch inside the Bulls 22m for another attacking opportunity.
68 Derek Minnie has another strong run in the midfield. He manages a "Sonny Bill" pass to CJ van der Linde running in support but he's unable to hold on. Would have been nice to see CJ at full pace!
65 CONVERSION, LION, BOSHOFF, 23-48. Boshoff having a field day with the boot!
64 TRY! LIONS, VOLMINK, 23-46. The Bulls are back to 15 men now but boy has the yellow card cost them. They have go out wide and Volmink times the intercept beautifully and runs 80m to score ANOTHER try for the Lions! The Lions faithful must be loving this performance tonight!
60 CONVERSION, LIONS, BOSHOFF, 23-41. Boshoff adds to the team as well as his own growing tally!
59 TRY! LIONS, MINNIE, 23-39. Elton Jantjies finds a whole in the Bulls defense and offloads to Des Fountain in support. They spread it wide and Derek Minnie finds himself dotting down once again! How the Lions are taking advantage of the yellow card!
57 Bulls show signs of a comeback as they attack inside the Lions 22m. Unfortunately for the home side, the captain Jono Ross went off his feet at the ruck and gives away a penalty.
54 CONVERSION, LIONS, BOSHOFF, 23-34. Boshoff adds the two as Lions start running away with this one.
54 TRY! LIONS, MINNIE, 23-32. Great play from the Lions who are fully taking advantage of the 14-men Bulls. Boshoff started it off with a good run down the middle, before they exposed the Bulls out wide. Chrysanda Botha found some space and put away Minnie who delightfully attempted a swan dive in front of his team mates under the poles!
52 CONVERSION, LIONS, BOSHOFF, 23-27. Boshoff adds two points as his successful day with the boot continues.
50 TRY! LIONS, BRITZ, 23-25. Lions opted for another line out and once gain formed the maul. The Bulls defend it well but are unable to stop Willie Britz from close range in the following phases.
50 The TMO once again disappoints the Lions as the try is not given. They were playing with advantage and have gone for touch to set up another maul. Another penalty is given from the maul and Kaplan has gone to his pocket! Morne Mellet has received a yellow card for his foul during the maul!
49 Lions are on attack again as they execute a driving maul from a line out. The maul is a good one as they barge over the line! Kaplan gone upstairs yet again to check if a try has been scored!
47 Unfortunately for the visitors the TMO has ruled that he did not ground the ball and so the Bulls will have 22m drop out. Great effort still by Volmink!!
45 Lions showing some promise on attack with some hard running from their forwards! They put a grubber through and Volmink does an acrobatic dive to dot down the ball before it goes into deadball! Benji Marshall eat your heart out! Kaplan has gone upstairs to check the grounding.
44 CONVERSION, BULLS, VISSER, 23-20. Visser keeps a cool head to add the extra points.
44 TRY! BULLS, VENTER, 21-20. Clayton Blommetjies takes a short pass just off the back off the ruck and goes clean through! He draws the last line of defense sends Venter in for the try! Great work from Blommetjies!
43 Bongi Mbonambi makes a great run off the line out as he gets brought down just outside the Lions 22m The Lions turnover as Cronje kicks. Jurgen Visser gathers and makes a clean break before being tackled, he's been extremely dangerous today!
41 Jurgen Visser gets us underway for the second half! Lions try run it from their own 22m and eventually give it the boot through Volmink.
Blue Bulls 16 - Lions 20. The clash has not disappointed so far with the game being played with much aggression and at a good pace. Both teams have looked positive with ball in hand and it this stage it looks like the winner may be decided by the team with a better goal kicker. Boshoff has been on fine form with the boot and Bulls need to be wary of conceding too many penalties next half!
40 PENALTY, LIONS, BOSHOFF, 17-20. Boshoff takes the three as the Lions head into the half time break with a four point lead.
39 PENALTY, BULLS, VISSER, 16-17. Good strike from Visser to reduce the deficit.
38 Boshoff's boot provides a good tactical kick into the Bulls 22m. They take it quickly and find some space close to the touch line! They work their way into the Lions half as the visitors get penalized at the breakdown. Visser with an easier attempt this time round.
36 Bulls get an opportunity to reduce the deficit as the Lions get penalized for not releasing after the tackle. Jurgen Visser lines up the kick from about 50m out...Good strike from Visser but it misses to the right.
32 CONVERSION, LIONS, BOSHOFF, 13-17. Great kick form the side line by Boshoff to extend the Lions lead.
30 TRY! LIONS, HELBERG, 13-15. A skew line out throw from Wepener gives the Bulls an attacking opportunity. Willie Britz gathers a loose pass by the Bulls and shows incredible pace for a big guy as he gets brought down just short of the line! Helberg gets his hands on the ball as Lions get a try against the run of play!
28 Clayton Blommetjies is on the field now for Tony Jantjies. His first touch of the match is a good one as he collects a Boshoff kick and returns it with interest into the Lions half.
25 Visser takes over the kicking duty as Jantjies is busy receiving treatment. Conversion just goes wide.
24 TRY! BULLS, VISSER, 13-10. Great play there from the Bulls!
24 Sampie Mastriet makes a good break after a clearance kick from Boshoff. He links well with Jurgen Visser who continues the run. Bulls continue on attack until Visser gets the ball again and shows good strength and speed in the tackle to go over in the corner!
18 CONVERSION, LIONS, BOSHOFF, 8-10. Great kick from Boshoff to take the Lions into the lead.
17 TRY! LIONS, KRIEL, 8-8. Great decision in hindsight! Jaco Kriel is the man at the back of the maul to bring the Lions level!
16 The Bulls collapse the maul started by the Lions. They opt for touch again and give up an easy three pointer! Positive play from the Lions!
15 The Lions receive a penalty early after the reset and Boshoff puts them deep into the Bulls half. Should definitely look to get some points here.
13 The conversion attempt just goes wide from Jantjies.
12 TRY! BULLS, ISMAIEL, 8-3. The Bulls looking very effective with ball in hand. They work it to both sides of the field before releasing Travis Ismaiel on the left wing to go over for the first try of the match!
10 The Bulls turnover ball after some expansive play from the Lions. They build some good phases themselves before also losing possession at the breakdown. Lions knock on to give us the first scrum of the match!
6 PENALTY, LIONS, BOSHOFF, 3-3. Great strike from the Lions pivot to make the scores level.
5 The Bulls are caught offside soon after the reset and the Lions now have a chance to equalize from 40m back. Boshoff lines up the kick.
4 PENALTY, BULLS, JANTJIES, 3-0. Good start for Tony Jantjies as the Bulls take the lead.
3 Jurgen Visser makes an early break for the Bulls to get them on the front foot. They work their way into the Lions 22 as the visitors infringe at the breakdown and give away a penalty. Bulls with an early chance to gain the lead.
1 And Marnitz Boshoff gets us under way at Loftus! The Bulls gather and find touch on half way.
0 The Jukskei derby is always a much anticipated clash and hopefully today will provide us with a mixture of fierce South African physicality as well as some running rugby from the backs.
0 The Bulls have made two changes for the match, with Ruan Snyman replacing Rudy Paige at scrum-half while Bongi Mbonambi replaces the injured Callie Visagie at hooker. Lions coach Johan Ackermann has once again decided that Elton Jantjies is best served coming off the bench, with the number ten jersey going to Marnitz Boshoff who turned out at full-back last week. Chrysander Botha takes over from Boshoff as a result. In the pack, Franco van der Merwe returns from Springbok duty to slot into the second row and Willie Wepener takes his place at hooker against the team that he played for earlier in the year.
