Brumbies v Waratahs - Live

Last updated: 15th March 2014

80 Sometimes the Australian derbies can be a bit of a boring affair but tonight was not one of those! The Brumbies through their rushed defense managed to put loads of pressure on playmakers Foley and Beale who battled to get the ball to Folau and co in space. The Brumbies held onto the ball well and played clinical rugby. Mogg had a great game and his individual moment of brilliance proved to be the difference. The Tahs will be extremely frustrated as they were gifted an opportunity at the end with the two yellow cards which they just couldn't take advantage of enough to surpass ther Brumbies. Well deserved for the home side tonight.

80 The Brumbies collect the kickoff and pass it to White who clears! That's the final play, the Brumbies win the derby clash tonight!

Penalty79 PENALTY, BRUMBIES, WHITE, 28-23! White nails it! But there's still time for the Waratahs!

79 The Brumbies win a penalty at a scrum! The Tahs front row collapsed the scrum and this could seal it for the home side! White will take the shot from about 38m out. Straight in front.

Conversion75 CONVERSION, FOLEY, 25-23! Foley converts and they're just 2 points away now!

74 TRY, TAHS, FOLAU, 25-21! THAT MAN FOLAU! He get's the ball in just the slightest gap and beats two men, breaks a tackle and scores in the corner! Brilliant stuff!

73 The Tahs are on attack again and replacement Ruyan Smith has been sent to the bin for infringing at the break down! Tahs set up a line out. They'll play the remainder with a one man advantage.

71 The Tahs are on attack again after turning down a chance at 3 points. Kane Douglas carries poorly and loses possession. Frustrating times for the visitors.

70 The brumbies get a tighthead! They clear successfully through Mogg! That's a wasted chance for the Tahs they need to score once more before Toomua comes back.

69 Palu runs strongly from the back of the scrum! He goes over the line! Peyper has gone to the TMO to check if he grounded it. Tahs don't look to excited.

68 Beale throws a speculator out wide for Bethem in space! He goes to ground and Will Skelton makes a strong run to keep the momentum. They kick through and it's waited perfectly, as the Brumbies are forced to carry the ball back over the line. 5m scrum to the Tahs.

Conversion64 CONVERSION, FOLEY, 25-16! Foley gets them even closer with a good strike!

TRY63 TRY, TAHS, HOOPER, 25-14! They show some patience, retain the ball and eventually the Brumbies are found wanting on the short side and Hooper crashes over! They're back in it now!

62 Pat McCabe puts a huge hit on Beale who loses possession in the collision! The brumbies put boot to ball and send the Tahs chasing back. They come back for a late hit on Foley. Tahs with another chance!

61 The very next play Matt Toomua is penalized for not making an effort to roll away. Peyper has lost his aptience and sends Toomua his marching orders. This is the Tahs opportunity. They set up for a scrum.

59 Phipps' pass to Potgieter is intercepted by the Brumbies and they mnagae to clear. There relief doesn't last long as Tahs are back on attack. The Brumbies have been penalized for infringing at the breakdown and Jaco Peyper gives a warning to Mowen and his team. Tahs set up a line out 10 yards out from the try line!

57 The Tahs on attack now with a scrum just outside the Brumbies 22m. They're a team that can score tries quickly and they need to do just that right now if they want a chance here.

55 White misses for the first time tonight.

TRY54 TRY, BRUMBIES, KURIDRANI, 25-9! Ben Alexander makes a great break out of nowhere and shows some good speed! He gets brought down just short of the line! The Brumbies recycle quickly and go wide to Kuridrani who crashes through Adam Ashley-Cooper to score!

52 The Tahs counter ruck the Brumbies successfully and manage to clear out the danger zone!

51 Brumbies attack off the scrum with Toomua making the initial break! They go wide and McCabe comes close to the line! Tahs have been penalized and advantage is being played! Coleman is all alone out wide and Toomua puts in a cross kick, he''s just too short and the ball goes out. They come back for the penalty and they set up a line out!

48 The Tahs really need to have Folau and Bethem running some good lines off Foley and Beale to spark something here.

48 Mogg puts in a huge up and under from inside his own half. The Tahs don't deal with it well just outside their 22m and knock the ball on. Mogg's having a great game tonight! Some of the players just getting a bit of attention from the medical staff.

46 The Tahs are on attack again and showing some great skill with effective offloading in the tackle. The brumbies eventually turnover and kick downfield! Tahs clear but don''t get good yardage again.

44 Tahs chucking the ball around the aprk nicely but the brumbies are holding the defence well. Another huge hit leads to the ball going loose and the Brumbies kick down field. The Tahs get back and clear.

42 Brumbies hold onto the ball well and send a few waves of attack! Tahs defend well and Michael hooper once again does terrific work at the breakdown to win them a penalty!

41 White gets us underway in the second half! Tahs don't deal with it well as Foley's kick doesn't find much distance!

40 After the Brumbies survived initial wave of attack from the Tahs, they've managed to settle down and play a bit more like the team who nearly won the competition last year! The Tahs just haven't been able to use their back three as effectively as they usually do due to some ferocious tackling and pressure on defense, especially by Matt Toomua who has been hunting Beale all night! If brumbies continue to suffocate the Tahs and not let Folau get much ball they'll be able to wrap this one up. Tahs need to retain possession better and finish off their chances to get back in the match! Looking forward to it!

Penalty40 And that's the end of the first half! Brumbies head into the break with a healthy 11 point lead!

Penalty39 PENALTY, BRUMBIES, WHITE, 20-9! Easy kick for White who increases his tally to 15 points!

38 Tahs have given away a scrum inside their 22m. Brumbies back on attack! Tahs front row collapses this time and the Brumbies have a penalty!

34 Coleman finds space on the left wing and shows some toe! He gets brought down in the Tahs 22m. The brumbies lose it foward in the danger zone and the Tahs are let off the hook!

32 Tahs attack from deep and do so well! The back line interlinks well and work they way into the Brumbies 22m! Bethem just has to pass to Foley to go under the poles but the pass is not held onto and now Mogg pounces on it! There''s loads of space ahead! But he too fumbles whilst trying to round a forward. Chances for both sides there!

30 Great pressure on defence from the Brumbies. Toomua is giving Beale all sorts of trouble tonight landing his second big hit on him! The ball ends up loose and the Brumbies kick the ball through! It's another race to the line but this time Alofa had a headstart and won the race to dot down.

28 Brumbies are looking strong on attack shortly after the kick off! They work their way into the Tahs 22m but great work from Hooper for the Tahs to win them a penalty!

Penalty27 PENALTY, TAHS, FOLEY, 17-9! Foley makes no mistake this time and reduces the gap to 8 points.

26 The Brumbies front row have been penalized for collapsing the scrum. Foley will have another shot at goal.

25 It's hit the posts! Brumbies knock it on and the Tahs are on attack close to the line! They also lose possession but we come back for the first scrum for the Tahs. They're about 10m out!

23 The Tahs have their turn to attack now and use the inside ball off Foley to good effect. The Brumbies try turnover at the breakdown and nearly succeed! They eventually give away a penalty for illegal entry at the ruck. Foley will have a shot to reduce the gap!

Conversion20 CONVERSION, WHITE, 17-6! Another great strike from White extends their lead!

TRY19 TRY, BRUMBIES, MOGG, 15-6! The TMO has given it! Incredible try and individual effort! The brumbies have hit a bit of a purple patch here!

18 Brumbies go wide to Jesse Mogg and he finds some space! He decides to put the ball to boot and the chase is on!! It's Mogg vs Folau and it looks like they got their at the same time as they both dot the ball down in desperate dives! Brumbies are celebrating! We've gone upstairs!

Conversion16 CONVERSION, WHITE, 10-6! White has all ten points now!

TRY15 TRY, BRUMBIES, WHITE, 8-6! Great play from the home side. They use Speight to crash the ball up in the centre channel. He sucks in a lot of defenders and the ball is recycled quickly. White spots a gap on the blind side and goes over for the first try!

14 The pressure has paid off as the Tahs have a forced error. Scrum to brumbies from 5m out!

12 Jesse Mogg puts in a great tactical kick which rolls out inside the Tahs 22m! Great vision and execition by the fullback!

Penalty11 PENALTY, TAHS, FOLEY, 3-6! Great long range kick from Foley!

10 Jaco Peyper has got a word from an assistant and has stated that a brumbies player had dropped a shoulder on Folau after he kicked the ball. Penalty Tahs.

10 Tahs kick deep into Brumbies territory through Folau, he follows up and puts huge pressure on White who is cleaning up the mess. They secure the ball and Mogg clears.

9 Brumbies defend well! Some big hits put in! They manage to secure a penalty and Nic White finds a good clearance.

7 Great attacking play from the Tahs. Foley throws a cut out to Folau which creates space. He works with Alofa Alofa on the right wing which gets them to the Brumbies 22m. They win a penalty and set up a line out!

Penalty6 PENALTY, BRUMBIES, WHITE, 3-3! And the arm wrestle begins! Great kick from Nic White!

5 Brumbies secure a penalty thanks to Paddy Ryan bringing the maul down. Nic White will have a shot from about 45m with an angle.

Penalty3 PENALTY, TAHS, FOLEY, 0-3! Foley makes no mistake with a decent strike!

2 Waratahs get back posession and are on attack again. The brumbies aren't rolling away at the breakdown and the Tahs will have a shot at goal from 40m out.

1 Kurtley Beale produces the most delicate chip kick for Ashley Cooper to run onto. Tahs looking dangerous but concede a penalty in the Brumbies 22m.

1 And Foley gets us underway! He goes deep, brumbies collect and Mogg finds a good clearance!

The Brumbies have named an unchanged starting XV for Saturday's Super Rugby derby against the Waratahs in Canberra. On the bench Michael Dowsett replaces Conrad Hoffmann as back up to Nic White at scrum-half, in an otherwise unchanged 23-man squad from last week's victory in Wellington.

Waratahs news: Waratahs coach Michael Cheika has made just one change to his starting XV for Saturday's clash with the Brumbies in Canberra. Skipper Dave Dennis returns to the side, at the expense of Stephen Hoiles, after recovering from the knee injury that sidelined him against the Reds two weeks' ago. In the tight five, the front row remains the same, whilst lock Jacques Potgieter's robust display against the Reds has enabled him to keep his spot alongside Kane Douglas. The backrow is now Dennis on the blindside, Michael Hooper at openside flanker and Wycliff Palu at number eight. Nick Phipps and Bernard Foley will wear nine and 10, while Kurtley Beale will continue to make his play for higher honours from the inside centre position. Relishing his role at outside centre, Adam Ashley-Cooper provides the link between Beale and the back three of Alofa Alofa, Peter Betham and Israel Folau, which remains unchanged.

Welcome Welcome to Canberra Stadium in Canberra for the Australian derby featuring the Brumbies and the Waratahs. It's always a bit of a grudge match between these two and hopefully tonight will produce some fantastic rugby!
