Waratahs v Bulls - Live

Last updated: 19th April 2014

Full Time80 The Bulls came back in the second half and managed to hold onto the ball a bit better. The Tahs missed a few kicks and opportunities to put the game out of reach but credit to the Bulls for always finding a way to keep themselves in the match! Bulls will have a lot to consider as they have lost 3 on the road now. Tahs with the win will keep the pressure on the top of the table Brumbies.

80 The Bulls get on attack and work their way to the Tahs 22m! The Tahs work hard and win a penalty and that's the end of the match! The Tahs have won!

Penalty77 PENALTY, BULLS, POLLARD, 19-12. Are we in for an exciting finish!?

76 Pollard has set up a line out for the Bulls which they drive again! Again it pops up on the Tahs side! They kick but don't find touch and the Bulls attack. They win a penalty and Pollard will have a shot.

74 Potgieter has found a huge touch after winning a penalty! The Bulls set up a maul and come close! They lose the ball and the Tahs counter attack with Dennis making a strong run up the midfield! A pass has been called forward from the Tahs and we come back for a scrum on the 10-yard line.

69 Huge hit from Flip on Jacques Potgieter! That was not a friendly tackle! The Tahs eventually knock on for a Bulls scrum. They need points soon!

Penalty65 PENALTY, TAHS, FOLEY, 19-9. Foley extends the lead and it looks a bit bleak for the visitors now with a man down.

Yellow Card64 YELLOW CARD! BULLS, HATTINGH. Grant Hattingh just got lazy on defensive as Hooper steps inside and Hattingh leaves his arm out and catches the neck. Big blow for the Bulls.

Penalty62 PENALTY, TAHS, FOLEY, 16-9. Foley gets this one as he extends the lead to 7 points!

62 Tahs win a penalty! They've opted for posts and Foley will take the shot!

60 Beyers knocks the ball on inside his own 22m whilst gathering a kick! Terrible mistake! Tahs with a strong chance with a scrum inside the Bulls 22m.

58 Tahs have space out wide and they go for the big cut out pass to the wing! He tries to keep it in play but the pass is forward.

56 Foley pulls it! Another miss for Foley!

55 The Bulls lose the ball, the Tahs kick down field. Hougaard tries to run it, gets caught without support and the Tahs win a penalty! What a turnaround! Foley will have shot!

53 A high kick from Paige is knocked on by the Tahs and the Bulls are on attack! They start playing rugby now and come close to the line! The ball goes over the deadball but according to the TMO it came off a Tahs player so scrum 5m to the Bulls!

51 Potgieter gets in the pocket after a few phases and attempts a drop goal...he pushes it wide. A bit negative play from the Bulls. Great chance to push for a try.

49 Scrum to the Bulls inside the Tahs 22m. Great attacking opportunity for the visitors!

Penalty47 PENALTY, BULLS, POTGIETER, 13-9. Bulls very much in this one now!

46 Jacques Potgieter puts Skelton through a gap who offloads to Hooper who is away! He passes to Phipps whose ankle tapped and the lose possession. Bulls counter attack and find space on the left wing! Hougaard gets the ball but is reeled in by Hooper deep in the Tahs half! They keep attacking into the Tahs 22m and win themselves a penalty! Bulls with a chance to get within striking range!

43 Bulls win a penalty after stealing a line out! Potgieter sets up a line out on the 22m. They lose the line out and the Tahs clear!

41 Potgieter gets us underway for the 2nd half! Tahs gather and kick but don't find touch. Bulls have the first attacking chance! Tahs defend well and win a penalty.

40 The Tahs came out firing with an early try in the first minute! They kept that momentum up for most of the first half and completely blitzed the Bulls. The Tahs' concentration slipped a bit towards the end of the half which has allowed the Bulls back in this one. Tahs are looking the better side but the Bulls now how to play kak and win. The boot of Jacques-Louis Potgieter could be a factor as he doesn't look like missing tonight.

Penalty40 PENALTY, BULLS, POTGIETER, 6-13. Another incredible strike from Potgieter to narrow the gap as they head into half time!

40 And the Bulls win a penalty! Potgieter will have a shot to reduce the lead to 7 points on half time.

39 Bulls win another penalty and Potgieter finds a huge touch on the Tahs 22m. Some points here would be a great turnaround for the Bulls before half time.

Penalty38 PENALTY, BULLS, POTGIETER, 3-13. Potgieter strikes it sweetly, straight through the middle. Bulls on the scoreboard!

37 Now the Bulls finally get a penalty and have a chance to get on the scoreboard. Tahs penalized for an infringement at the scrum.

34 Foley pushes it way right and lets the Bulls off the hook!

32 Tahs win another penalty as the Bulls lack discipline at the breakdown yet again! Tahs with a chance to extend their lead to 16 points!

30 We have a break in play as Piet van Zyl seems to have injured his knee! Rudy Paige is on to replace him.

28 Tahs win a penalty on the half way line but opt for touch instead. They go wide and Crawford throws another forward pass. Basson doing well to come up quickly and force that kind of pass.

26 It's all Tahs at the moment, Bulls having to defend a lot. Tahs try an expansive move but throw a forward pass in the process. Bulls need to retain possession and get Basson and Hougaard in some space.

Penalty22 PENALTY, TAHS, FOLEY, 13-0. Starting to look ominous now for the Bulls!

21 Tahs win a penalty after a great kick from Foley. Basson gathers but is tackled. Beyers lost his feet at the breakdown and this should be another 3 for the Tahs!

Penalty19 PENALTY, TAHS, FOLEY, 10-0. Easy stuff for Foley!

18 Tahs make a break and it could be on! Ref says there was some obstruction but they come back for an earlier infringement from the Bulls and Foley will have a shot from straight out in front.

14 Bulls now find some space up the right wing! The opportunity comes to nothing as they eventually lose the ball! Great conditions for running rugby tonight!

13 Beale makes a great break on the inside! He puts a grubber through onto the try line but Ben Robinson was the chaser and so the Bulls get back comfortably.

10 Tahs looking incredibly dangerous again as the backline runs at pace off the line out! Ref comes back for a slight forward pass to Folau.

9 Beale has the accuracy but is just short. Didn't strike it cleanly.

8 Penalty to the Tahs! Incorrect entry at the ruck from the Bulls. Jacques Potgieter is carrying the ball so well...Heynecke Meyer is surely watching closely. Beale will have a long distance shot from the corner of the 10-yard line.

6 Their extremely anticipated maul is driven sideways into touch and the Tahs have the throw-in! They attack wide before Foley kicks to start a kicking battle which the Tahs win.

4 Bulls win a penalty at the scrum and kick for touch. They'll no doubt drive it up and try settle things down.

4 Huge run from Potgieter against his old team mates! They go wide and Beale just fumbles the ball with loads of space in front of him! Tahs are looking on fire!

Conversion2 CONVERSION, TAHS, FOLEY, 7-0. No mistake from Foley to extend the early lead!

TRY1 TRY! TAHS, FOLAU, 5-0. 28 seconds! That's all it took! They go wide, Ashley-Cooper makes a half break and pops it inside to Izzy Folau who didn't even need a minute to make an impact!

1 Foley gets us underway tonight! And they win their own kick back!

Tahs news: Wallaby full-back Israel Folau is set to return to the Waratahs starting line-up for todays clash with the Bulls. The try-scoring ace has missed both games in South Africa with a throat injury, and was then controversially withdrawn by the Australian Rugby Union for last week's clash against the Force. But the Waratahs medical staff have given Michael Cheika the all clear to pick the full-back and the player has received a medical clearance from the ARU. Folau last played against the Rebels in round six, four weeks ago. The backline remains otherwise unchanged, with Rob Horne and Cam Crawford holding their places on the wings, and Kurtley Beale and Adam Ashley-Cooper continuing their partnership in the centres. In the halves, Nick Phipps and Bernard Foley line up alongside each other for the eighth straight game in 2014. A strong performance in the scrums in the last two games has seen Cheika stick with the starting front row of Benn Robinson, Tatafu Polota Nau and Sekope Kepu. After a dynamic display last week, Will Skelton again partners Kane Douglas in the second row. The backrow consists of blindside flanker Jacques Potgieter - who'll be up against his former Bulls teammates - Michael Hooper and skipper Dave Dennis. With the Waratahs expecting a torrid forward battle, the coach has gone with five forwards and three backs on the bench. After missing last week's loss to the Force in Perth, a fit-again Wycliff Palu will look to make a return to action via the bench.

Bulls news: Lock Flip van der Merwe has been passed fit and will lead the team for their third tour match to Australasia. Van der Merwe got injured in last weekend's loss to the Highlanders in Dunedin, but has recovered sufficiently from his arm injury to lead the team. Frans Ludeke has made one change on the bench, where Rudy Paige will act as scrum-half cover. Should Paige take to the field it will be his first appearance in the competition this year.

Welcome to Allianz Stadium in Sydney for our Super Rugby clash featuring the travelling Bulls and the Waratahs! The Bulls need a victory tonight to avoid a disappointing tour and to keep the qualifying hopes alive. The Tahs are not far behind the Brumbies and will look to put pressure on them at the top with win tonight!
