Western Force v Bulls - Live

Last updated: 26th April 2014

80 Not a pretty match but still interesting to see the Force beat the Bulls at their own game! The Bulls showed moments of the side they used to be but were just not good enough again tonight. Ebersohn controlled the game well with his left boot and the Force's loosey's were once again a factor.

80 The Force retain the ball until the siren goes and clear into touch! That's the end of the match! Still no tour wins for any South African teams...

78 Bulls get penalized for holding on! Force kick into touch and it may be too late for the visitors!

77 Bulls lose the ball! They charge down the kicker well and Hayward doesn't find any distance off the kick. Line out to Bulls just inside the Force 22m!

75 Another kick from the Bulls. The Force collect but lose the ball in contact! Scrum to Bulls inside the 22m!

74 Just a lot of kicking and knock on's! Bulls now have a scrum in the Force's half. They need to make their move now if they want to get a tour win!

70 Ebersohn puts a great kick from the back of the scrum which trickles into touch inside the Bulls 22m. This game has been all about territory!

65 Bulls have got their act together now and are playing with more energy! They come close to the line and the whistle goes for a penalty to the Bulls. The ref is just checking with the TMO for foul play. Jacques du Plessis has cleared the ruck dangerously and the Force now have the penalty!

Penalty63 PENALTY, BULLS POLLARD, 15-9. No problems for the young flyhalf.

62 Pollard immediately breaks through! He gets brought up short but they come back for a penalty. Pollard will have a shot straight out in front.

61 Force knock on after the reset and now Bulls have an attacking position which they NEED to take points from. Pollard now on for Potgieter.

Penalty60 PENALTY, FORCE, EBERSOHN, 15-6. Ebersohn continues his flawless night!

59 The Force''s up-and-under is not gathered by the Bulls and the Force gather it and are on attack! Cottrell does well and offloads to Hodgeson! They come really close to the line but the Bulls defend well but are penalized in the process. Ebersohn should get three points here.

56 The Force win a penalty! Bulls penalized for obstruction. Waste of an opportunity!

55 Bulls win a penalty during the line out and Matfield has opted for the line out. They're 5m out and should drive this! Could be on!

54 Bulls win a penalty in their own half and Potgieter finds a good touch on the Force 22m. Bulls need to get some points here.

51 Potgieter is not having his best night. Knocked on a ball that came straight to him. Probably time for Pollard!

48 Bulls win a penalty this time as Force penalized for holding on! Potgieter kicks for touch finds it just outside the 22m.

45 Bulls penalized again much to their own frustration. Force find touch inside the Bulls half.

Penalty44 PENALTY, FORCE, EBERSOHN, 12-6. Anther great strike from Ebersohn who keeps his 100% success.

43 The Force win the first penalty of the half as the Bulls fail to roll away at the breakdown. Sias will have a shot.

41 Potgieter gets us underway! Force start well as they kick into space and Basson is bundled into touch as he gathers the ball. Force immediately on attack.

40 Not too much to report half time. Loads of kicking from the two sides as they fight for territorial gain and to try force an error from their opponents. The Bulls started off strongly but Sias has controlled the game well and has kicked more accurately than the Bulls in the second part of the half which has aided there come back.

Penalty40 PENALTY, FORCE, EBERSOHN, 9-6. No msitake from Sias to get the Force in front.

39 Force win a penalty and Sias will have a chance to get his team in front!

38 Interesting battle between the two SA flyhalves. With all the flyhalf woes for SA at the moment (injuries to Goosen and Lambie), one of these two could well get a crack at the SA squad this year. Ebersohn has definitely put up his hand this year and is doing well tonight.

37 A great chip kick from Sias bounces awkwardly for the Bulls and they knock on! Scrum for the Force just outside the 22m.

35 Potgieter spills the ball inside his own 22m whilst gathering a kick. All the Force players come and give him a pat on the back! Sias gets in the pocket after the scrum but pushes it wide...

Penalty32 PENALTY, FORCE, EBERSOHN, 6-6. No mistake from Saffa Sias!

31 Force win a penalty in easy kicking range. Greyling penalized for not rolling away. Ebersohn should level the scores!

29 Another passage of kicking! Visser errs as he kicks it straight out on the full! Force will have an attacking opportunity with a line out on the Bulls 22m.

Penalty25 PENALTY, FORCE, EBERSOHN, 3-6. Ebersohn strikes it well to get his team on the board!

24 Matfield comes into the ruck off his feet and gets penalized! Force will have a shot from about 40m.

22 Hougaard grabs the ball at the back of the line out and puts a well weighted grubber through. The Badger gets back and does well to retain the ball for the home side as they manage to clear.

20 Another kicking battle ensues but this time the Force win the battle and have a line out around half way.

19 The rain is pouring down at the moment! Definitely suits the Bulls style of play. I'm sure we'll see Potgieter and Hougaard testing Hayward at the back with many kicks.

17 Potgieter has a drop goal attempt and it hits the cross bar! The Force do well to scramble the ball back and Godwin finds a decent touch from inside his own in-goal area.

15 A kicking duel begins between the two sides and the Bulls win the battle. They have a line out inside the Forces half.

Penalty13 PENALTY, BULLS, POTGIETER, 0-6. No challenge for Potgieter there, straight through for another 3.

12 The Bulls very briefly showing signs of the champions they used to be with strong runs and quick recycling of the ball. Force caught offside and Potgieter will have an easy shot.

9 The Force put a big kick up for Visser to deal with. Visser fails to grab it and the Honey Badger has it briefly!! But he knocks on for a Bulls scrum. The crowd goes wild for the Badger whenever he's involved!!

7 Good work from the Force forwards as they win a penalty after a Bulls Line out. Jono Ross is penalized for holding on.

Penalty4 PENALTY, BULLS, POTGIETER, 0-3. Potgieter continues his kicking form this year with a sweet strike straight through the middle!

4 Bulls crash it up with the forwards and make absolutely no ground. Their patience pays off as Adam Coleman is penalized at the breakdown and Potgieter will have a shot.

2 A big up-and-under from Hougaard is not gathered by the Force and the Bulls get a scrum. Great attacking chance.

1 Ebersohn gets us underway! Potgieter clears well for the Bulls!

0 Force news: Wykes has recovered from a rib injury and returns to the starting pack, alongside Adam Coleman, who was solid in his starting debut last week. Lock Wilhelm Steenkamp will provide cover from the bench in his first appearance against his former club since joining the Force for 2014. Hayward returns to his customary full-back role with Dane Haylett-Petty, who started in the fifteen spot against the Rebels, moving to the wing.

0 Bulls news: Matfield takes over the reins from fellow second-row Flip van der Merwe who is serving a three-match suspension for punching Waratahs prop Paddy Ryan in last weekend's encounter in Sydney. Bulls coach Frans Ludeke made five changes to his starting line-up for this clash with Van der Merwe's suspension, rotation and injury forcing his hand. Three changes are at the back. Jurgen Visser has recovered from the foot injury that ruled him out of the Waratahs clash shortly before kick-off and slots in at full-back, where he replaces Ulrich Beyers. Francois Hougaard moves back to the base of the scrum following the knee-injury sustained by Piet van Zyl, and a fit-again Akona Ndungane returns to his regular spot on the wing. Ludeke also made two changes to his pack. Van der Merwe's suspension means Paul Willemse will start in the second row with Matfield. In the other change, Ludeke gives Bongi Mbonambi a first start at hooker, will regular Callie Visagie rested. Bandise Maku will make a first appearance on the bench. Ludeke also re-jigged his bench, where Wimpie van der Walt will get a first run in Bulls colours if he takes to the field. Beyers replaces William Small-Smith as utility back.
