Crusaders v Brumbies - Live

Last updated: 3rd May 2014

80 Full Time: CRUSADERS 40-20 BRUMBIES

80 Toomua clean through looking for another try, but Heinz wins the race to his grubber kick and the Crusaders clear. Romano boots it into touch and that's the game! Good work from the Crusaders who finish with a handsome lead on the scoreboard, too good at the breakdown throughout. Deserved win.

TRY77 TRY, BRUMBIES, MCCABE! 40-20: Huge hold in the middle for McCabe who skips was through running on the angle off Toomua. All too late though.

TRY75 TRY, CRUSADERS, L.WHITELOCK! 40-13: That's just reward for their defence! Luke Whitelock literally dribbles the ball past the defence with his feet and pounces for the hosts' third try.

73 Big tackles still coming in from the Crusaders as Mowen is bundled into touch. Little burst from McCabe in the play before that, but the Brumbies just don't look like scoring.

71 Score for the Brumbies just isn't happening, as their latest attack from a driving maul ends with a knock on. 'Saders scrum swivels but they make ground and then Slade clears.

Yellow Card70 YELLOW CARD, CRUSADERS, ROMANO! Romano's only just come onto the park but is now sent to the bin for coming round the side of the ruck. Brumbies lineout five metres out...

69 Coleman in space down the left flank and tries a grubber behind the defence, but Dagg and Slade combine well to clear.

67 Knocked on by Bird and the Brumbies have promising turnover ball. Chipped into the corner and Tuitavake waits just long enough to let the ball roll into touch.

65 Crusaders clear and that Brumbies maul is back again. Visitors looking out wide but McCaw is there to turn the ball over.

63 Brumbies maul is well set and the 'Saders infringe again. Back into the corner we go through White. Chaos as the ball comes loose at the back of the maul but the Brumbies maintain possession. Lost into touch.

62 Long way back now for the Brumbies but they have a penalty in the 22. White kicks into the corner.

Penalty60 PENALTY, CRUSADERS, SLADE! 33-13: Number seven of the night from Slade and that might just seal the match.

58 Carter is yards outside so the 'Saders have another penalty. Much closer to the posts and Slade will go for goal again.

55 Crunching tackle by L.Whitelock and it wins a turnover penalty for the Crusaders. Brumbies' ill-discipline stopping their chances so far. Slade misses the penalty.

55 Crunching tackle by L.Whitelock and it wins a turnover penalty for the Crusaders. Brumbies' ill-discipline stopping their chances so far. Slade misses the penalty.

TRY53 TRY, CRUSADERS, NADOLO! 30-13: How's that a chargedown? S.Whitelock flings himself at a kick from Toomua and the loose ball is picked up by Nadolo who scores! 30 up for the Crusaders.

50 Nice attack from the Brumbies started by Kuridrani, but it ends with a couple of knock-ons in the 22. Visitors are certainly sharper. Ellis clears to touch.

Penalty48 PENALTY, CRUSADERS, SLADE! 25-13: Couple of messy scrums end with a penalty for Slade from right out infront which he converts, his sixth of the night.

45 Kicking battle ends with a Crusaders lineout as Crotty bundles Tomane into touch. Attack looks good but then Whitelock knocks on. Nice offload by Nadolo in the build-up.

TRY42 TRY, BRUMBIES, MOORE! 22-13: Brumbies up to the 22 - lots of wide passes but little penetration so far. Coleman with initial burst to give them some go-forward and then Mowen busts a tackle, feeding Moore who steps inside for the score! Perfect start for the visitors.

40 White starts the second half as the Brumbies set about climbing a rather large mountain.

Half Time: CRUSADERS 22-6 BRUMBIES!!

Conversion40 A handy lead is now a big lead as Slade converts.

TRY40 TRY, CRUSADERS, MCNICHOLL! 22-6: Handy lead going into half-time but the Crusaders are not done! Dagg and Nadolo break up the left initially before the ball is lost. 'Saders though get a second chance, reaching the 22. Hooter sounds as Whitelock feeds McNicholl, who jinks inside and goes over! Good finish from the young winger.

Penalty37 PENALTY, CRUSADERS, SLADE! 15-6 Brumbies pinged at the breakdown to hand Slade his fifth shot at goal of the half. He's on fire tonight! Nice strike.

35 Lost forward by McCaw going into contact, Brumbies scrum in the middle of the park. Free kick 'Saders - Eliis lifting it high. Taken by Tomane and White clears with a box kick to touch near halfway.

Penalty33 PENALTY, BRUMBIES, WHITE! 6-12: Good strike and the Brumbies are back within six.

32 Rare bit of territory and possession for the Brumbies and advantage is being played. No way through for Kuridrani so we come back for the penalty - White going for goal.

30 Crusaders into the side at a ruck. White kicks towards the 22.

Penalty27 PENALTY, CRUSADERS, SLADE! 12-3: Slade converts his fourth kick at goal after Alexander was penalised at the scrum. The hosts are in control.

25 Promising attack for the Crusaders inside Brumbies territory comes to an end through a knock-on. Scrum to the visitors.

22 Missed kick at goal from Lealiifano keeps the scoreline at 9-3. McCaw the man pinged out there but looked a tough call.

Penalty19 PENALTY, CRUSADERS, SLADE. 9-3. Slade slots another.

18 After eighteen minutes, it's 50-50 in possession as now Nafi Tuitavake replaces substitute back Taylor.

Penalty15 PENALTY, BRUMBIES, WHITE. 6-3. The lead's cut here.

Penalty12 PENALTY, CRUSADERS, SLADE. 6-0. Sloppy work from the Crusaders allows Slade to double the hosts' lead.

8 Now Kieron Fontia is off, replaced by Tom Taylor.

Penalty7 PENALTY, CRUSADERS, SLADE. 3-0. The hosts are on the board as number ten Slade slots one from wide out.

5 Jordan Taufua is on for the Crusaders by the way as Brumbies forward Scott Fardy gets penalised at the breakdown. The home side will enjoy some possession.

2 Huge blow for the Crusaders straight away here as Matt Todd is off with a leg injury after less than two minutes. Richie McCaw's job just got tougher.

1 Here we go then!

0 The Brumbies have named an unchanged XV with just one tweak coming on the bench where prop Ruaidhri Murphy replaces JP Smith. Kick-off is coming up.

0 There is no Kieran Read due to concussion but his absence is cushioned by Richie McCaw's return to their number six jersey, with Matt Todd openside. Ben Funnell is preferred at hooker for this one.

0 Hello and welcome from Christchurch for this third game of the Super Rugby round as the Crusaders host the Brumbies. The home side know that a loss would be another blow to their hopes of topping the New Zealand conference while the Brumbies can put some daylight between them and the Force with a victory.

Give George Ford the chance to shine for England, says Dewi Morris

I watched Bath v Saracens last Friday and was very impressed with George Ford and how well he controlled that game for Bath. I would love to see him play a big role in the autumn internationals and I hope Stuart Lancaster starts him for at least two of the four Tests.
