Waratahs v Hurricanes - Live

Last updated: 3rd May 2014

80 The Canes attack with everything to try get something out of the game! The Tahs eventually turnover the ball and kick into touch to the visitors despair! That ends one of the matches of the season!

80 Canes on attack looking for at least a bonus point from this match! Rob Horne nearly intercepts but spills it forward! Scrum to Canes as the siren sounds!

Penalty76 PENALTY, TAHS, FOLEY, 39-30. Foley takes the lead out of reach for the Canes! They'll need to score twice now!

75 Tahs have won a penalty in kicking range! Foley should nail this and will be hard for the canes to come back from this!

73 the Canes launch an energetic attack through Ardie Savea but his offload is just a tad forward!

72 Canes have won a penalty and Barrett finds a good touch on the halfway mark! Canes need to score next!

71 Blade Thompson made a cracking run from the scrum but a Phipps flinging arm just managed to dislodge the ball with the field wide open for Thompson!

69 The replays show that Beale lost the ball forward! The Canes will have a scrum an attempt to clear and get back into Waratahs territory!

68 The Tahs get on attack again after Phipps again makes a cracking run up the middle! Beale has a crack from close and I feel just came up short! He's gone upstairs to the TMO.

66 Foley's important kick hits the posts!

TRY65 TRY! TAHS, HOILES, 36-30. Fantastic try from the home side! After a few good runs from Hooper and Phipps, the Tahs go wide! Skelton gets the ball and deftly pops it on the inside to Hoiles who crashes over!

Penalty63 PENALTY, CANES, BARRETT, 31-30. Barrett's kicking technique is looking smooth as he floats another over.

62 The Canes attack well with patience as they slowly make their way up the field! Eventually the Tahs make a mistake and concede a penalty. Barrett will have a fairly easy shot.

60 The Canes defend well as another wave of Waratahs attack is stopped. The visitors win a penalty at the break down and Barrett finds a good touch.

Penalty58 PENALTY, CANES, BARRETT, 31-27. Barrett also continues his good form with a 100% success rate tonight!

57 Canes win a penalty with Carraro not releasing as the tackler. A bit of discussion between the Canes players before they opt for poles from the corner of the 22m.

Conversion55 CONVERSION, FOLEY, 31-24. Foley continues the good form with the boot tonight!

TRY54 TRY! TAHS, CARRARO, 29-24. Foley pops it on the inside and Carraro does brilliant work as he deals with about two defenders to crash over the line for his first super rugby try.

53 This time Beale puts the big cross kick up! It's a better kick and Andre Taylor knocks it on! Scrum to the Tahs 5m out!

52 Tahs win a penalty after Perenara was penalized for being offside. Foley finds a good touch!

50 Foley goes for a cross-kick but its poor and Folau can't gather the ball on the wing! Savea gets it and is almost away himself!

49 Tahs win a penalty and they opt for touch! Bold call from the Tahs but I guess tries are what will win this match tonight!

48 The Canes survive a Tahs onslaught as they worked there way close to the Canes try line. Seems to be the theme of tonight; to just survive each others relentless waves of attack. Tahs with a scrum inside the Canes 22m.

44 Tahs win a penalty! Foley finds touch to relieve some pressure. The home side did incredibly well to not concede points there!

43 Canes go wide and Hooper makes a try saving tackle! There was an easy run in on for Jane out wide but Hoopers hit meant the pass went forward and now the Tahs have a scrum!

41 Barrett gets us underway for the second half! The Canes have the ball and immediately we see more attacking play! The ball isn't coming out the ruck and the Canes have a scrum 5m out.

40 Half Time: That's the end of an absolutely incredible first half! Both teams have been so dangerous on attack and have exposed the slightest glitch in defense! The momentum has shifted several times with both teams dominating periods of play with rapid tries in concession. If the second half is anything like the first I suggest getting to a telly to watch some exciting Super Rugby!

Penalty39 PENALTY, TAHS, FOLEY, 24-24. Foley levels the scores in this humdinger of a match! Get yourself to a tv screen for the second half!

38 Tahs attack ferociously with Beale making good ground! Foley puts the perfect grubber through for Horne to run onto right on the try line but the final bounce is awkward and he knocks it on! They come back for a penalty and Foley should level things with an easy penalty kick.

Conversion36 CONVERSION, FOLEY, 21-24. Foley converts his own try!

TRY35 TRY! TAHS, FOLEY, 19-24. What a comeback from the home side! Cracking game so far!

35 Foley has gone over the line! He showed for the inside pass and then accelerated up the middle! The ref has gone to the TMO to check whether he got the ball down or not!

34 Waratahs win a penalty at scrum time and Foley finds a decent touch in the Canes 22m. They'll want some points here to keep chipping way at that deficit!

Conversion31 CONVERSION, FOLEY, 14-24. Foley slots the kick to reduce the deficit!

TRY30 TRY! TAHS, DENNIS, 12-24. And now a try at the other end! Adam Ashley-Cooper is the man again to make the initial break! Dave Dennis powers over from close to get his side a much needed 5 pointer!

Conversion27 CONVERSION, BARRETT, 7-24. Barrett adds the two and the Canes now have an incredible 17 point lead!

TRY26 TRY! CANES, SAVEA, 7-22. Another one! It's raining tries! Dane Coles breaks through to get the go=forward! They go wide to Savea who runs in an easy try! Brilliant play from the visitors!

Conversion25 CONVERSION, BARRETT, 7-17. No mistake from Barrett to add the two!

TRY24 TRY! CANES, BARRETT, 7-15. Crazy stuff here in Sydney! Andre Taylor makes a cracking run down the right wing and then goes past Rob Horne too! He passes it back in field where Perenara is brought up short and the Tahs turnover. They go wide in their own in goal area and Palu knocks on straight into Barretts hands!

Penalty23 PENALTY, CANES, BARRETT, 7-10. Barrett won't miss those! Canes now in front!

22 Penalty to the Canes as Phipps is offside! Right in front of the posts and Barrett should send his side in front.

21 More frantic play! The Tahs open up a huge whole for Folau but the pass from Potgieter to Israel is not the best and he knocks on! The Canes swoop on the ball and Alapati Leiua shrugs a few tackles but then also just spills it forward!

16 A frantic passage of play as the ball changes possession several times! Both times keen to run tonight! We have a scrum to the Canes on the halfway.

Conversion14 CONVERSION, BARRETT, 7-7. No mistakes from the Cane's flyhalf!

TRY13 TRY! CANES, TOOMAGA-ALLEN, 7-5. Too much strength from the big front rower close to the line as he bashes his way through for a try!

11 The Canes win a short arm penalty and take a quick tap! They go wide to Savea but the ball goes into touch. The resulting line out is won again by the Canes who attack and come close! Steve Walsh gets in the way of a Perenara snipe so we'll have a 5m scrum to the visitors. Some basic mistakes costing the Tahs here.

9 The Canes have knocked the ball on again on attack! The Tahs really working hard to not give the Canes time on attack.

8 Palu is penalized for being offside! Canes interestingly kick for touch instead of having a long range shot. Maybe just out of Barretts reach.

7 The Canes win the line out and start to attack. Teh Tahs rush defense is effective and forces a knock on from the Canes.

6 Penalty to the Tahs in their own 22m. It was a huge scrum from the Canes but was a correct call from the ref. Foley relieves the pressure with a good clearance.

Conversion2 CONVERSION, FOLEY, 7-0. Foley starts well with the boot!

TRY1 TRY! TAHS, HORNE, 5-0. They do it again, scoring in the opening play!! Adam Ashley-Cooper bursts through a tackle and passes to Rob Horne. Horne sprints down the wing, cuts inside to beat the covering defense and scores!

1 Foley gets us underway! And the Tahs win the ball as usual and are on attack!

0 Hurricanes news: James Broadhurst and Julian Savea will achieve the milestone when they both run on in the Hurricanes' starting line-up on Saturday night. Taranaki lock, Broadhurst, made his debut for the club against the Force in 2010, while Savea debuted against the Highlanders in 2011. Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett has opted to take a familiar squad on the team's tour of Australia, which starts with a flight to Sydney. The team leave with a determination to continue their four-game winning streak in order to remain in play-off contention. The only change to the Hurricanes line-up to face the Waratahs comes at reserve half-back, where Billy Guyton replaces Chris Smylie on the pine. Smylie has been ruled out with a hamstring strain.

0 Hello and welcome to Sydney for this exciting prospect of a match between the Waratahs and the Hurricanes.

Give George Ford the chance to shine for England, says Dewi Morris

I watched Bath v Saracens last Friday and was very impressed with George Ford and how well he controlled that game for Bath. I would love to see him play a big role in the autumn internationals and I hope Stuart Lancaster starts him for at least two of the four Tests.
