Stormers v Highlanders - Live

Last updated: 3rd May 2014

80 They've done it! A five-point win for the Stormers, just their third victory of this Super Rugby campaign. Hard-fought, but deserved for the hosts who have contained the Highlanders' attacking threat. Thanks for joining us!

80 Scrum-five, Stormers ball. They just need to get it out the scrum and out the park!

79 Rhodes has fought his way over, but we're checking with the TMO. Fifteen seconds left!

79 But Jean de Villiers wants to go for the corner. Grant does the necessary. They just need the ball with a minute left on the clock.

78 Stormers win the penalty! If Grant knocks this over, the Highlanders will need a try very, very quickly to win it!

76 Stormers penalty inside their own half and they can clear away into Highlanders territory.

72 Highlanders come rumbling into the home 22 once more and look to regain the lead. Eight minutes to go! Ball lost forward by the visitors, though.

69 A warm reception from the home crowd for the entrance of Cheslin Kobe for van Wyk. Highlanders scrum on their own 10m line.

Penalty67 PENALTY, STORMERS, GRANT! 29-28 Nothing in this as we enter the final quarter of an hour.

67 Yellow card for Mitchell, to the letter of the law it's a dangerous tackle. Grant with a simple three-point chance.

67 We're checking what appeared to be a dangerous tackle with the TMO.

65 Aaron Smith can't clear very far, Stormers have another lineout on the visitors' 22.

64 And big Duane Vermeulen, the vice-captain, spills the ball in the tackle metres from the line. He may have had the power to get there, but we'll never know.

62 Penalty for the hosts as the Highlanders stray offside at the breakdown. Peter Grant is just on, and he kicks down to the 22.

Conversion60 CONVERSION, HIGHLANDERS, RENATA! 26-28 Renata makes no mistake from the tee. Highlanders in the lead and now they too have a try bonus point!

TRY59 TRY, HIGHLANDERS, FEKITOA! 26-26 The boos ring out at Newlands as the on-fire Fekitoa speeds over from close range. The extra man making all the difference.

57 And the Stormers back in trouble once more as De Jongh is bundled out in his own 22. Here come the Highlanders...

Conversion55 CONVERSION,HIGHLANDERS, RENATA! 26-21 Good kick from the winger who has taken over the kicking duties, Sopoaga struggling with an ankle knock.

TRY55 TRY, HIGHLANDERS, BEN SMITH! 26-19 Brilliantly worked try from the scrum. Aaron Smith gathers and grubbers over the line for his namesake Ben to flop over.

Yellow Card53 Penalty to the visitors and an inevitable sin-binning for Ntubeni who left Craig Joubert no option with his breakdown infringement.

52 Highlanders piling on the pressure now, metres short...

Conversion50 CONVERSION, STORMERS, COLEMAN! 26-14 Nice kick from the fly-half, and the hosts have a commanding lead now.

TRY50 TRY, STORMERS, KEBBLE! 24-14 The gamble has paid off! The prop rumbles over and it's a try bonus point for the Stormers!

48 Penalty Stormers - Coleman instructed to go for the touchline. This is a gamble.

47 Stormers attacking once more with great field position from a scrum in the middle of the visitors' 22. A bit more ruthlessness needed.

45 Stormers back in possession in the 22, but van Wyk is bundled out down the left-hand-side. So refreshing to see Allister Coetzee's men move the ball with pace and effect.

42 Stormers not straight with the first lineout of the second half. Highlanders have the ball back with the scrum on halfway.

40 Teams back out at Newlands, and we're underway again.

40 Last play of the half as the Highlanders scrum down in their own 22. Aaron Smith gets it out and we're done for the first forty. Great fare for the Newlands fans as the Stormers have dominated possession, but lead by only five points after a clinical show from the visitors.

Conversion39 CONVERSION, HIGHLANDERS, SOPOAGA! 19-14 Back to five points, super conversion.

TRY38 TRY, HIGHLANDERS, RENATA! 19-12 Clinical stuff from the visitors, right back in the game. Lovely kick through from Sopoaga, Ben Smith keeps it in brilliantly on the boot and Renata dives on the loose ball. Great try.

35 Just wide with the conversion from Coleman, right on the touchline.

TRY34 TRY, STORMERS, DE ALLENDE! 19-7 Super try for the Stormers! They've found that ruthless touch! Slick handling set De Jongh galloping through the middle, and he just had to release the winger to dive over in the corner. Great stuff.

32 Groom makes a great break but is isolated five metres short and the Highlanders win a crucial penalty. Scrum-half down at the moment.

TRY28 TRY, STORMERS, MALHERBE! 12-7 Penalty Stormers in the 22 and they take it short. Can they score this time? Yes! Malherbe again, crashing over from close range and finally they breach the line!

26 Again the Stormers attack. Again they don't score. Van Wyk bundled into touch at the corner.

24 The visitors come sweeping forward with both Smiths involved, but a knock-on allows the hosts to clear and the Stormers kick downfield. Ben Smith covers back and is bundled into touch on his own 22. Lots of players now down receiving treatment.

23 Frustration again - it's a free-kick to the Highlanders for an early drive and they clear.

22 It's very, very tight and the replays shed precious little light on the grounding. Scrum-five to the Stormers down in the corner. Pressure on.

22 It looks like Taute may have gone over in the corner! Great handling in the Stormers backline as the ball was shipped out to van Wyk and the inside ball sent the full-back crashing over. Was he out?

20 Again the Stormers cough it up in attack, but they'v e got the lineout down on the near side on the visitors' 10m line after a rather dubious call from the assistant referee.

18 Hosts win a penalty and clear up to their own 10m line.

17 Wow! Coleman hits the post from straight in front, 15 metres out. The Highlanders attack and Sopoaga chases a lovely kick into the corner.

16 Another missed opportunity for the Stormers - just showing a bit of naivety in attack and not able to make the killer play. They do have a very kickable penalty, though.

13 Neither side retaining possession well at all - turnovers flying in at Newlands! Stormers back on the ball in midfield.

11 This one really opening up as the Stormers attack to within 10 metres of the line then lose it and the Highlanders come roaring back downfield.

8 CONVERSION, HIGHLANDERS, SOPOAGA! 7-7. Lima Sopoaga steps up and adds the two-pointer which draws his side level!

7 TRY, HIGHLANDERS, A SMITH! 7-5. Aaron Smith gathers inside the Stormers' 22 and chips ahead before regathering and crossing over!

6 Damian de Allende gathers a kick just outside his 22 and tries to take on defenders. He makes little progress but manages to offload to Ntubeni who goes to ground.

Conversion3 CONVERSION, STORMERS, COLEMAN. 7-0, Coleman holds his nerve and lands the difficult two-pointer from close to the touchline.

TRY2 TRY, STORMERS, MALHERBE! 5-0. The Stormers take the ball through several phases, close to the visitors' try-line, and when Frans Malherbe spots a gap he barges over in the left-hand corner!

1 And we're off! Kurt Coleman gets us underway with a deep kick which Shaun Treeby gathers inside his 22 where he immediately sets up a ruck. The Stormers win a crucial turnover though and are soon on the attack with Scarra Ntubeni!

Highlanders boss Jamie Joseph has made three changes to his side that beat the Sharks last weekend. In the back-line, Trent Renata replaces the injured Patrick Osborne on the left wing. And up front, John Hardie takes over from Shane Christie on the openside flank while Josh Bekhuis replaces Jarrad Hoeata in the second row.

Stormers coach Allister Coetzee has made four changes for this fixture. Experienced Springbok flank Burger comes in for Siya Kolisi at number seven and Kurt Coleman will make his first start of 2014 at number ten. Fit-again hooker Scarra Ntubeni returns to the run-on side and hard-running winger Sailosi Tagicakibau will wear the number eleven shirt.

Hello and welcome to Newlands Stadium in Cape Town for this Super Rugby clash between the Stormers and the Highlanders. We'll return soon with team news.

Give George Ford the chance to shine for England, says Dewi Morris

I watched Bath v Saracens last Friday and was very impressed with George Ford and how well he controlled that game for Bath. I would love to see him play a big role in the autumn internationals and I hope Stuart Lancaster starts him for at least two of the four Tests.
