Stormers v Bulls - Live
80 Stormers 16 Bulls 0
80 The Stormers set up a couple of phases with their forwards and when the siren goes Louis Schreuder boots the ball into touch. Although the second half was much more even, the Stormers are deserved winners as they were dominant for large passages of play. The Bulls will have to do some introspection as this result has ruined their chances of making the play-offs. They battled to get going and were out-muscled in the tight exchanges.
80 The Bulls are penalised when Jacques Engelbrecht breaks away early at a scrum. Coleman puts the ball into touch just inside his half.
77 The Stormers launch an attack, just inside the Bulls' half b7ut lose possession when Rhodes knocks on after a big hit from JJ Engelbrecht.
74 The Stormers try to launch an attack, inside the Bulls' 22, but once again Taute knocks on when he runs onto a pass from Kolisi.
72 Coleman gets a chance to the home side's lead after Matfield is penalised for playing Ruan Botha in the air at the line-out. His effort is well struck but hits an upright and the visitors get out of jail!
69 The Bulls try to attack at a line-out, midway between their 22 and the halfway line, but Paul Willemse knocks on.
67 Aplon gathers a loose pass from Engelbrecht and sets of towards the Bulls' try-line! He is hauled in, just outside the visitors' 22 by the cover defence, but the Stormers are still in possession and take the ball wide. Only a desperate tackle from Marcel van der Merwe prevents Kolbe from getting in at the left-hand corner!
65 Siya Kolisi is on for Vermeulen and immediately puts his side onto the attack with a strong run inside the Bulls' 22. The ball is recycled but the hosts soon lose possession when Taute knocks on.
63 There's confusion out there as Coleman calls for a mark, after a Beyers up-and-under, but he hasn't gathered the ball cleanly! The referee allows play to continue but the Bulls chasers are slow to react and Coleman runs himself out of trouble!
60 It's pouring down with rain now and the Bulls get their driving maul going again! They come close to the hosts' try-line but Schalk burger does brilliantly when he wins a crucial turnover!
58 The Bulls go on the drive from a line-out but are soon awarded a penalty when Alistair Vermaak enters the maul from the side. Pollard puts the resulting penalty into touch deep inside the Stormers' 22.
55 The Stormers attack with their forwards, inside the Bulls' 22, and Michael Rhodes and Cilliers are prominent ball carriers. It all comes to nothing though as Carr is soon pinged for obstruction.
53 Francois Hougaard makes a telling break and is soon inside the Stormers' 22! He eventually loses possession after a text-book tackle from Taute.
51 The Stormers are under the cosh, inside their 22, but Coleman does well with a kick into touch five metres outside their quarter.
48 Matfield takes the ball into contact, inside the Stormers' 22, but is soon penalised when he holds on too long. Coleman puts the resulting penalty into touch on the halfway line.
45 Fourie is penalised, after he interferes with Matfield in the air at a line-out. Pollard kicks for touch and puts the ball out deep inside the Stormers' 22.
43 The Bulls are awarded a penalty, after the Stormers capitulate under great pressure at a scrum. Referee Joubert reverses his decision, however, when Dean Greyling slaps Deon Fourie on the head after the set-piece.
41 Handre Pollard gets the second half started with a deep kick which Duane Vermeulen gathers inside his 22. He sets off on a run and is brought to ground, just outside his quarter by Jono Ross.
40 Stormers 16 Bulls 0
40 The Bulls take the ball through several phases inside the Stormers' half but it all comes to nothing as Kolbe and De Jongh combine to tackle Ndungane into touch. That's the final act of the half and the teams head into the sheds. It's all Stormers at the moment! They've dominated in most aspects and the Bulls are battling to keep pace. The hosts have shown great continuity and the interplay between forwards and backs has been phenomenal!
40 PENALTY, STORMERS, COLEMAN. 16-0. Coleman extends the home side's lead after Visagie is penalised for playing the ball on the ground.
37 The Stormers are on the attack, just outside the Bulls' 22. Pat Cilliers sets up a ruck but Kolbe knocks on when he tries to set off on an attacking run.
35 Coleman launches a chip kick which Aplon gathers! He is tackled inside the Bulls' 22 by Akona Ndungane but doesn't release the ball and is penalised.
33 The Bulls try to attack from a line-out on the halfway line but Visagie is blown up for a crooked throw! Everything seems to be going wrong for the visitors.
31 Beyers gathers a kick from Aplon, just outside his 22. He kicks ahead but the ball sails directly into touch.
29 The Bulls take the ball wide to their backs but JJ Engelbrecht knocks on after taking a big hit from Coleman!
27 The Bulls are penalised again for a scrum infringement. Coleman puts the Stormers onto the attack when he puts the resulting penalty out on the visitors' 22-metre line.
24 PENALTY, STORMERS, COLEMAN. 13-0. Coleman adds another three-pointer after Callie Visagie is pinged for not releasing a tackled player on the ground.
21 The Stormers attack close to the Bulls' try-line but lose possession when Taute fails to release in the tackle. Handre Pollard puts the resulting penalty out just outside his 22.
19 There is some concern as Aplon stays down after gathering a high ball. Referee Craig Joubert stops the game to allow him to get medical attention but it's not a major injury and Aplon is back on his feet in no time.
17 Victor Matfield takes the ball into contact but Visagie is blown up for obstruction. Coleman puts the resulting penalty out on the Bulls' 10-metre line.
15 CONVERSION, STORMERS, COLEMAN. 10-0. Coleman adds the extras to extend the home side's lead!
14 TRY, STORMERS, TAUTE! 8-0. Kurt Coleman makes a break and offloads to Nizaam Carr, who is soon deep inside the Bulls' 22! He draws in a defender before passing to Jaco Taute, who gets in for the game's first try!
13 Dean Greyling is penalised for illegal scrummaging. Coleman kicks for touch and puts the ball out on the Bulls' 10-metre line.
10 Gio Aplon gathers a high kick from Francois Hougaard just in front of his 22. He sets off on a run and chips ahead. The ball falls in to no man's land but he is beaten by the bounce and JJ Engelbrecht dives onto it just inside his half.
8 The Bulls take the ball through several phases with their forwards but lose possession when Grant Hattingh holds on too long on the ground. Coleman puts the resulting penalty out on the visitors' 22-metre line.
5 PENALTY, STORMERS, COLEMAN. 3-0. Kurt Coleman gets the game's opening points, from the kicking tee, after Callie Visagie is pinged for a high tackle on De Jongh.
3 The Stormers are on the attack deep inside the Bulls' 22! Sailosi Tagicakibau, Cheslin Kolbe, de Jongh and Pat Cilliers are all prominent ball carriers!
1 And we're off! Kurt Coleman gets us underway with a deep kick which Ulrich Beyers, who is a late replacement for Jurgen Visser, gathers inside his 22. His progress is halted by a thumping tackle from Juan de Jongh.
0 The Bulls have included several Boks, including lock Victor Matfield, in their squad. Joining Matfield in the side will be Jan Serfontein, Handre Pollard and Francois Hougaard while Marcel van der Merwe is named on the bench. Pollard and Hougaard will continue last week's partnership in South Africa's win over Scotland, with centre Serfontein alongside JJ Engelbrecht. The back-row sees Grant Hattingh, Jacques Engelbrecht and Jono Ross combine while Werner Kruger, Callie Visagie and Dean Greyling form a strong-looking front-row for the fixture.
0 With regular skipper Jean de Villiers still injured, Springbok flank Schalk Burger will captain the Stormers. The return of Burger in the number seven jersey is one of six changes to the starting line-up that did duty against the Sharks - three of them being positional. The positional switches see Juan de Jongh (outside centre to inside centre) and Sailosi Tagicakibau (left wing to outside centre) team up in the midfield, with Cheslin Kolbe moving from the right wing to left wing. There are also three new faces on the bench in the form of the fit-again pairing of hooker Tiaan Liebenber and scrum-half Louis Schreuder, whilst SA Sevens and former SA U20 ace Senatla comes in for his first taste of Super Rugby. Last, but certainly not least, Newlands crowd favourite Gio Aplon will make his return to action from a dislocated elbow in the number 14 jersey. Aplon - who will leave for France after the Super Rugby season - has not played since injuring his elbow against the Reds on March 29.
