Berrick Barnes will make his long-awaited return to action when the Waratahs entertain the Cheetahs on Friday.

The inclusion of Barnes is one of six changes of personnel made by head coach Michael Cheika following the loss to the Brumbies.

Pat McCutcheon, Lachie Turner, Peter Betham, John Ulugia and Paddy Ryan also start, while there are two further positional switches.

Israel Folau moves from the wing to full-back, while captain Dave Dennis reverts to his preferred position on the blindside flank.

There will be a familiar face in the Cheetahs line-up with Sarel Pretorius returning to face his former club.

Pretorius endured a difficult time during his season-long stay in Sydney however he has recaptured his best form back at the Cheetahs.

Pretorius scored twice in the win over the Highlanders last time out - with coach Naka Drotske keeping faith with the same starting XV for the trip to the Allianz Stadium.
