London Irish coach Toby Booth admitted that the manner of his side's 14-13 victory over Northampton was by no means pretty.

But the Exiles boss said he was delighted to win away from home and clinch the club's first triumph of the Premiership season.

"It certainly wasn't the prettiest of games and we won playing ugly, he said: "But I am delighted to get an away win in the Premiership.

"There is a real adrenaline injection from winning a game. The Premiership is unrelenting, it's like a juggernaut out of control but it was a fantastic victory.

"We have 20% of our squad away but we have Jamie Gibson, Dec Danaher and Fran Rautenbach to come back hopefully for next week."

Saints coach Jim Mallinder said "We are very disappointed to lose. We didn't play well and had we won it would still have covered up a number of faults.

"We had a dominant scrum but did not look after the ball and made lots of mistakes."

"It's gone," Mallinder added of referee Martin Fox's controversial knock on close to the end of the match. "Things like that happen in the last two to three minutes and you have got the previous 77 to get yourself in the clear."

"It's only three games gone but we need to do better and go up to Sale and get a win.

"We hope to have Lee Dickson and Roger Wilson back in the near future and they will make a difference as they are key players."
