Olly Barkley was delighted to say goodbye to Bath in style as he kicked 16 points in the 31-10 win over bottom side Sale.

Barkley is moving to Paris to play for Racing Metro and he left the Recreation Ground with goodwill messages ringing in his ears.

"I am just happy having won four points today," he said. "The last thing I wanted today was an unhappy changing room after losing three games on the bounce. That was my main priority.

"Walking across the pitch after the game, the realisation that I won't be doing it again in a Bath jersey is quite sad. But I've had a fantastic time here, and it is time to move on to a new challenge.

"I will leave this place with a heavy heart, but also with a happy one. I have watched the Top 14 quite a bit. It is a league that I have admired, and I am looking forward to going there."

Sale coach Bryan Redpath insists his team deserved more: "At 19-10 down we had a couple of opportunities that we didn't take, but the scoreline was not a true reflection today.

"It was more encouraging, but we were on the wrong end of some tough decisions.

"We have just got to keep beating away at the drum and work hard to get a better performance. The players' attitude today was great."
