Olly Barkley credited team spirit for Racing Metro's dramatic 22-17 Heineken Cup victory over Munster in Paris.

The French club trailed with seven minutes left after Simon Zebo's score saw the visitors snatch the lead - but Barkley stayed cool to restore the advantage with a penalty before Mirco Bergamasco made sure of the points.

Former England international Barkley was making his debut for Racing, but said afterwards: "You don't win games like that against teams like Munster without a really good team spirit.

"It just doesn't happen in the rain. We'll take a lot of confidence from that."

The scene was set for a kicking duel with Munster counterpart Ronan O'Gara, and Barkley admitted the result may have been influenced by the veteran Irishman's early departure to injury.

Barkley added: "He was kicking fantastically well, as we knew he would. That was a major blow for them."

Munster head coach Rob Penney said afterwards: "We had opportunities. There's no doubt about it. Very disappointed with the outcome but really pleased overall with the performance in a number of areas."
