Mark McCall was thrilled with his maturing Saracens side after victory at Racing Metro left them one win from the Heineken Cup knockout.
The visitors battled to a 37-28 success in France despite a nightmare period which saw David Strettle stretchered off, Will Fraser sin-binned and Racing take a 22-9 lead.
In the end a record 10 penalties from Owen Farrell in a 32-point haul lifted Sarries to the brink of the quarter-finals, and McCall said: "It was a fantastic performance.
"In the last four years we have been building in this competition and a win against a very good French side in France continues that.
"We're very proud of the team after bouncing back from the setbacks in the first half of the early injury, the tries and a yellow card.
"We were off our game in that first half and not working hard enough. But we knew at half-time that if we rectify things then we could win the match.
"But we still have an important job to do next week against Edinburgh to secure the pool winners spot."
Strettle was floored by a Fabrice Etsebanez forearm, but the Saracens website later reported there was "no long-term damage".Heineken Cup. Click here to bet.
