LV= Cup: Steve Diamond says Premiership survival remains Sale's main focus
Steve Diamond admitted that Premiership survival was the main target for Sale this season, despite the club's victory over Saracens on Sunday which booked their place in the final of the LV= Cup.
The Sharks won 21-15 at Salford City Stadium to set up a final showdown with Harlequins at Sixways next weekend.
However, with five matches remaining Sale are just two points off the base of the Premiership table and Diamond said: "What's happened with London Welsh being deducted five points is good fortune for us in one respect but we just need to compound it by winning the remainder of our games.
"We've got three league games at home, London Irish and Northampton away and we need to go in and finish in the Premiership on our own merits.
"The Cup is good to keep the momentum. We'll play Harlequins at Worcester next Sunday and that's great."
Beaten Saracens' coach Paul Gustard defended his decision to name a second-string side for this semi-final clash.
He said: "We rotate and these guys that started the game got us into the semi-final.
"This was their reward and I think it was only right that they started the game."
Forwards' coach Alex Sanderson added: "All these young guys have been in our ranks for years now and that's the positive you can take from it, in that they can now do a job.
"They got us this far in the tournament and, upon reflection, maybe they can take us a stage further next year."
