Wasps held off a late Worcester charge to record a 10-6 Aviva Premiership win in a poor match at Adams Park.

Wasps made a great start and should have cantered home but they failed to take advantage of all their territory and possession to allow Worcester to stay in touch.

The hosts took the lead just three minutes in - Billy Vunipola and Joe Launchbury made the hard yards and good ball retention saw prop Simon McIntyre drive over, Stephen Jones converting.

Worcester fly-half Andy Goode hit the post with a penalty but then the Warriors were caught offside and former Wales and Lions No 10 Jones nailed an angled penalty to make it 10-0.

The second quarter was dire, both sides making a catalogue of unforced errors and there were no more points scored before the interval.

Early in the second half, a handling error by Italy veteran Andrea Masi allowed Worcester a position in the Wasps' half and when the hosts were penalised, a Goode penalty gave Warriors their first points.

Jones then missed with a 45m penalty attempt and with half an hour left Goode cut the gap to four with a spectacular drop goal from fully 50m.

Stung by the two penalties, Wasps resumed their earlier dominance with Launchbury - one to watch this season - and McIntyre again prominent.

A clever chip by Joe Simpson set up an easy try for England wing Christian Wade - but he knocked on with the line at his mercy.

Jones missed another angled penalty for Wasps, and Worcester finished the game strongly, piling forwards in a nail-biting finish.

Jon Clarke failed to collect a Goode cross-kick for the winning try before Wasps withstood four minutes of huge pressure to prevail.
