Stormers captain Deon Fourie scored the only two tries of the match to inspire his side to a 24-12 victory over the Southern Kings in an all-South African affair at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Fourie scored in the closing minutes of each half in what was a very hotly-contested affair in Port Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.

The Stormers led 11-9 at the interval thanks to Fourie's score from on rolling maul on the stroke of half time.

The visitors had the better of the possession stats in a hard-fought but had to wait until the 39th minute to take the lead for the first time as they struggled to get on top of a dogged Kings outfit in a hard-fought first half.

The pattern continued in the second half and the result hung in the balance until Fourie's second try in the 76th minute.

Demetri Catrakilis kicked the Kings into a 6-0 lead early on but penalties from Elton Jantjies and Joe Pietersen saw the Stormers draw level after a harsh yellow card was handed to King prop Grant Kemp.

Catrakilis edged the Kings back in front with his third penalty but the Stormers took a two-point lead into the changing rooms after Deon Fourie touched down at the back of a rolling maul with the last play of the half.

Jantjies and Catrakilis exchanged three-pointers to leave the scores at 14-12 to the visitors going in the final quarter.

Jantjies again found the target in the 72st minute to stretch the gap to five points before Fourie produced a great solo effort to break off a maul, beat a number of tackles and score the match-winning try.
