Bonus night for Brumbies
Aussie visitors run in six tries to claim the extra point
Henry Speight scored two of the Brumbies' six tries as the visitors beat the Lions 34-20 at Coca Cola Park.
Conrad Jantjies gave the home side a fifth-minute lead with a penalty, but they were trailing six minutes later when Ruaidhri Murphy drove over the line following a spell of pressure.
Christian Lealiifano missed the conversion though, and Jantjies responded with his second penalty of the match to edge the Lions back in front.
Lealiifano was unsuccessful with a penalty of his own soon after, before Jesse Mogg also booted wide of the mark as the Brumbies failed to make the most of their opportunities to clock up points.
However, Speight eventually added to their tally after 35 minutes with his first try of the match in the corner, and Mogg was unlucky not to add the extras when his kick hit the post.
Lealiifano's disappointing evening continued when he found himself a gap under the posts only to drop the ball on his way over the line, but Andrew Smith made amends after 33 minutes when he raced through the Lions defence.
Mogg finally found the target with his conversion to give the Brumbies a 17-6 lead at the interval.
The visitors picked up where they left off at the start of the second half with Joe Tomane adding his name to the try-scoring sheet, Mogg once more failing to convert.
And Ben Alexander dotted down moments later for the Brumbies' fifth try, with Lealiifano this time nailing the conversion.
The Lions were struggling to contain their opponents and Speight burst through once more after 56 minutes to give the Brumbies a 34-6 advantage.
Butch James was then sin-binned for the South African hosts, but they responded to the challenge and Jaco Taute broke through after 63 minutes for their opening try, which was converted by Jantjies.
Caylib Oosthuizen also crossed late on for the Lions, with Jantjies again adding the extras, but it all came too late with the win already safe for the Brumbies.Super 15. Click here to bet.
