Benjamin Boyet kicked 17 points as Bayonne claimed a 22-19 win at Newport Gwent Dragons in Pool Three of the Amlin Challenge Cup.
Stand-off Boyet had a 100 per cent record with the boot, landing five penalties and converting his captain Mark Chisholm's try.
Newport, looking to respond from defeat at Wasps in their pool opener, took the lead through flanker Tom Brown's fifth-minute try.
And a trio of Tom Prydie penalties had helped the Welsh side move 16-6 in front after 31 minutes.
But Bayonne skipper Chisholm touched down for the visitors on 36 minutes and Boyet's boot did the rest.
Boyet and Prydie exchanged penalties early in the second half to leave the scores level at 19-19 before Boyet kicked the winning three points in the 68th minute.
Bayonne now have nine points from their two matches and lead the way in Pool Three.
