Heineken Cup: Northampton fight back from first-half deficit to beat Glasgow
Northampton fought back from a slow start to claim a 24-15 victory in their Heineken Cup Pool Four opener against Glasgow.
Scores from Joshua Strauss and Sean Lamont helped the visitors take a shock 15-0 lead at Franklin's Gardens but the 2011 runners-up hit back with four unanswered tries of their own to ultimately secure maximum points.
George Pisi grabbed a brace of tries in the first half as he and brother Ken proved too much for the Warriors' defence to handle.
Glasgow started the stronger and got the first points on the board via the boot of Peter Horne before a terrific effort from Lamont prevented Ken Pisi from grounding the ball beyond the try-line, according to the video referee.
Instead it was the away side who scored the first try of the afternoon as flanker Strauss powered over from close range with Horne adding the conversion.
There was no let-up in the onslaught as Lamont added another try just before the half-hour mark, sliding in at the corner after the ball had been quickly spun out wide.
The stunned home crowd then watched Stephen Myler miss a kickable penalty but were finally given something to cheer about when George Pisi finished off a move which was started by a superb break from lock Samu Manoa.
On the stoke of half-time Northampton scored again, Ken Pisi searing through the Warriors' defence before handing off to his brother George to touch down under the posts. Myler converted to leave Northampton 15-12 behind at the break.
The turnaround was complete when Myler was played in for the hosts' third try three minutes into the second half.
The bonus point was secured in the 71st minute, Vasily Artemiev tearing down the left wing to score, with Ryan Lamb adding the conversion following a string of missed kicks from Myler.
