Harry Leonard: 23 points in vain from Edinburgh fly-half
Scarlets returned to winning ways after back-to-back Heineken Cup defeats with a 29-28 victory over Edinburgh in a tense RaboDirect PRO12 clash at Murrayfield.
Young Edinburgh fly-half Harry Leonard appeared to have won the game for the Scottish side by booting over 23 points but a 79th-minute penalty from Rhys Priestland proved decisive.
Edinburgh had failed to score in both their Heineken Cup defeats to Saracens and Munster but they took only eight minutes to get off the mark as Tim Visser bulldozed over beneath the posts, Leonard adding the simple conversion.
The visitors replied on 14 when George North finished off a well-worked move and Aled Thomas' conversion levelled it up.
Leonard's penalty put the hosts back in front but a fine burst from Gareth Davies set up a second Scarlets try for Nick Reynolds.
The lead changed hands again after Leonard landed two more penalties only for the Welsh side to hit back for a third time as North shrugged off three weak tackles to cross for his second try on 32.
Leonard's fourth penalty made it 19-19 but the visitors snatched a 26-19 lead at half-time when a handling error allowed Davies to touch down and Thomas added his third conversion.
Davies went from hero to villain after the restart when he was ordered to the sin-bin after clashing with Greig Tonks and Leonard's two penalties during his absence narrowed the deficit to one point.
Leonard had missed two penalty attempts earlier in the second half but the 20-year-old's seventh successful kick with 15 minutes remaining looked to be the match-winner until Priestland struck.
