It was a tough day for Lucy Garner in the women’s British national road race as Laura Trott took the title in Wales.
The Sky Academy Sports Scholar wasn’t helped by having to ride without a team to support her and was ultimately unable to stay with the leading group after a breakaway, finishing 25th.
Her time of 2:51.16 saw her cross the line just under seven minutes behind the leaders.
Trott claimed the title by outsprinting Lizzie Armitstead, who looked set to retain her crown having built up a lead of 17 seconds in the last 20km.
However, the Olympic silver medallist was reeled in by Trott, Dani King, Emma Pooley and Sharon Laws in the final few kilometres before Trott and King beat her in the dash to the line, meaning Armitstead had to settle for bronze.
