Lucy Garner suffered a fall on stage two of the Giro Rosa to put an end to her hopes of competing for the stage win.
The Sky Academy Sports Scholar escaped from the crash with little more than a few bruises and was able to complete the stage without too many problems.
It will have been a disappointment for Garner, however, as the stage appeared well suited to sprinters such as herself.
It came after a difficult mountain stage on Saturday had seen her Giant-Shimano team-mate Claudia Lichtenberg finish fourth as Rabobank-Liv’s Marianne Vos, the current race leader, took first place.
The prologue on Friday saw Garner, 19, finish 15th in what was her first taste of one of the women’s tour’s biggest races.
The race continues on Monday and will conclude on Sunday at Madonna Del Ghisallo near Lake Como.
