Olivia Breen: Narrowly missed out on a medal in the T37/38 long jump

Olivia Breen put in a good performance but just missed out on a medal in the T37/38 long jump.

The 18-year-old athlete is better known as a sprinter but took up the long jump over the winter and despite just a few months getting to grips with the event she was only a whisker away from picking up a medal.

A best jump of 4.06m saw her earn a score of 578 to finish fourth, comfortably achieving her pre-Games target of a top five finish.

Australia's Jodi Elkington won the gold with a mammoth jump of 4.39m for a score of 956 with Bethy Woodward of England jumping 4.00m to take silver with 750 points. Bronze went to Johanna Benson, the Namibian getting a score of 622 after a 3.82m leap.

Breen will now focus on competing in both the 100m and the long jump at the IPC European Championships next month.
