Quotes of the week
Ray Wilkins believes clashes over proposed transfer targets could have led to Neil Warnock's exit from QPR.
Warnock, 63, was axed from his post at Loftus Road on Sunday with the Hoops 17th in the Premier League table, having picked up no wins in their previous eight games.
But ex-QPR manager Wilkins thinks differences of opinion with club chairman Tony Fernandes could have been the main reason for Warnock's departure.
"(Perhaps) Neil and Mr Fernandes have had a little chat and they're not too at ease with the targets they're going for," Wilkins told Sky Sports News HD.
Mark Hughes has emerged as the early frontrunner to replace Warnock and Wilkins expects there to be no shortage of interest in the Rangers hotseat.
But he has warned his former side that they must augment their playing staff during the transfer window if they are to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
"There are a lot of good guys out there who would be delighted to take on the manager's job at Queens Park Rangers," added Wilkins.
"It is an up-and-coming club and we've seen the ambition from the chairman, Mr Fernandes. He and his board have made a very bold decision and it will be very interesting to see the new guy that comes in.
"And there will be immediate discussion because they do need players to reinforce the squad. To maintain their Premier League status, they are going to need three or four new ones."
