Robertson suffered a remarkable 5-1 loss to China's Tian Pengfei before the evening session saw Selby beaten 5-3 by Norway's Kurt Maflin.
Tian won the first three frames with breaks of 91, 75 and 57 and added the fourth in a one-sided pre-interval session.
Robertson made 89 to take the first frame back but a 54 in the next proved in vain as Tian took it to reach the last 32 of a ranking tournament for the first time and start his Chinese New Year celebrations a day early.
Maflin, by contrast, made only one break over 50 but was able to grind down Selby - an approach more readily associated with the Leicester cueman, who made a 113 in frame three but was otherwise not at his best.
Judd Trump was a man in a hurry, following up his 5-1 first-round win over Noppon Saengkham earlier in the day by beating Mark King 5-0 in the evening.
Trump made two centuries in his first match and a top break of 88 against King, who had earlier edged out Dave Harold 5-4 in round one.
Disposed
Ding Junhui disposed of Mark Williams 5-1, with breaks of 89 in the third frame - missing the 12th black of a 147 attempt - and 90 in the sixth.
Barry Hawkins was another surprise departure, beaten 5-4 by Wales' Ryan Day, while Dominic Dale backed up his Snooker Shoot-out triumph by beating John Higgins 5-3.
Shaun Murphy came from 4-1 down to beat Matthew Stevens 5-4 in the last match to finish, and will face Trump in the last 16.
Murphy and Stevens had 5-1 wins earlier in the day over Ken Doherty and Fergal O'Brien respectively.
Liang Wenbo upset Stephen Maguire 5-3, having earlier beaten his fellow Chinese player Cao Yupeng by the same scoreline, and faces Mark Davis, a 5-1 conqueror of Graeme Dott.
Joe Perry awaits Maflin after beating Anthony McGill 5-0, while Day and Tian take on Anthony Hamilton and Rod Lawler respectively.
Also into the third round are Scots Alan McManus and Jamie Burnett, who will tackle Michael Holt and Xiao Guodong.
