Shoot-out drama as Weirside exit cup

Shoot-out heartbreak

The texts were flying back and forth at the weekend before the Super Sunday clash.

Partly because there was a general buzz about the game between Arsenal and Man Utd, but also because we were all trying to find out which pubs would be showing the game in 3D!

Lavvers in particular was keen to see what all the fuss was about, but unfortunately his intel let him and the rest of us down!

Bobbie and Dev did manage to catch the game in 3D, but they had to go all the way to north London to a place called the Emirates Stadium.

The two Gooners were naturally pretty downbeat about the result, but like the rest of us they were in awe of Wayne Rooney's performance.

The United striker was unstoppable again as he grabbed his 100th Premier League goal. The only consolation for them, and all Arsenal fans we guess, is that he will be on all of our sides come this summer!

Drama

World Cup fever is bubbling away nicely under the surface, and on Saturday afternoon three members of the crew got to experience some of the drama millions more will no doubt go through during the summer.

Obviously the World Cup is a bit different to the cup competition in our Saturday league, but going out on penalties is tough to take no matter what the standard. The only difference being how long it takes you to recover. In our case it was the time it took from leaving the pitch to showering up and heading to the pub!

With Tubes at a wedding and Ashley having already been subbed, Dave, Steve and Tom stepped up to represent the office. Unfortunately for us... they all missed!

Dave had the chance to put Weirside Rangers into the semis, but ballooned his effort over. While for Steve it was a case of deja vu having missed the all important spot-kick in last year's semi too.

Tom wasn't as down because as he pointed out "I scored during normal time so it was alright." Not that that was much consolation for Dave or Steve!

Interesting

Elsewhere, it's fair to say that it wasn't the most exciting close to a transfer window on Monday, but there were a couple of interesting stories.

Amongst them was Mido who signed on-loan for West Ham from Middlesbrough. The Egyptian striker accepted a contract of £1000 per week because he's desperate to play in the Premier League and prove he's still got what it takes.

It got us thinking, what jobs would we be willing to do for free?

Tubes was straight in with footballer, which was what the majority of us were thinking. But also revealed he'd quite like to be pilot.

There were a couple more which we can't really print, but Tom's choice of profession was probably the most bizarre:

"I'd be a baker for free I reckon," he told us with a straight face. "I'm not a keen baker at the moment, but I did make bread once at school."

If you're willing to work for free Tom, we're sure that's all the qualification you'll need!

See you on Saturday!
