Pre-season was tough, but there's lots to look forward to...

My role has changed slightly... I've passed on the Showboat baton to Steve along with some of the other football edits and I've been put in charge of doing the research and writing the questions for our football interviews which is really cool.

Quotes of the week

The summer holidays are over and it's back to business!

It's gone by in a flash, but I'm pleased to say I didn't waste too much time sitting in front of the TV.

I spent a bit of time in Rome with my cousin who lives out there, but the highlight was definitely my two weeks in Thailand. Barring the first day when it absolutely bucketed down the weather was amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend the last two weeks of my holiday.

Two days after touching down at Heathrow I was back at my desk and it's been pretty hectic ever since.

We do a lot less sweating than your average footballer during our pre-season (unless the air con packs in, in the office) but like them we have to put in the hours in the weeks building up to the big kick off so that we can reap the rewards during the season.

On top of that my role has changed slightly so I've been trying to get my head around that. I've passed on the Showboat baton to Steve along with some of the other football edits and I've been put in charge of doing the research and writing the questions for our football interviews which is really cool.

Junket

I'll still be doing the junkets though which I'm delighted about because the first one this season will be with Jonah Hill!

If you don't know the name, you'll definitely recognise the face because he's been in every really funny comedy in the last couple years, including Superbad, Knocked Up, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

He's got a new film out with 'Ballmouth' supporter and friend of the show Seth Rogen called Funny People which has had some good reviews, so I'm looking forward to meeting him next week.

Strong

I'm also really looking forward to seeing Chelsea play more this season. We've had a great start especially with Man Utd and Liverpool having already dropped points and I think we look strong.

The diamond in midfield seems to suit us as long as Michael Essien plays the defensive role and I'm glad that Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka are getting a good run together upfront.

It'll be interesting to see what Carlo Ancelotti does when Joe Cole comes back from injury as well as Yuri Zhirkov, but the depth of Chelsea's squad is impressive and I'm sure we'll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season... fingers crossed!

Later,

Tubes.
