Trundle: loves Swansea

It's a club I love so I'd like to finish my career there. Hopefully I can get back in the side, get a few goals and secure that.

Quotes of the week

Lee Trundle told Soccer AM he has his heart set on earning a permanent contract with Swansea when his loan deal comes to an end in January.

The Bristol City striker is in his second spell with the Swans, where he became a fans favourite, scoring an incredible 78 goals in 146 appearances, between 2003 and 2007.

Despite his status at the club, Trundle opted to join Bristol City in the summer of 2007 to further his career, but has so far failed to hit the same heady heights - opting to leave the club in search of first team football with loan spells at Leeds and now Swansea.

"I went to Bristol and it never worked out for me there," he told Soccer AM. "At the time it was the right move for me because it was the division above and I've always wanted to play at the highest level.

"But that's football sometime things happen like that. You go somewhere and it doesn't work out so I'm glad to be back at Swansea where I'm enjoying my football.

"At the start of this season I didn't feature (at Bristol City) and last season I only started four games so I'm open and I can go back to Swansea, get back in the side and hopefully earn a contract there."

Impress

The 33-year-old from Huyton in Liverpool admitted that it was unlikely he would remain on Bristol City's books when his contract comes to an end and revealed he was keen to impress current Swans boss Paulo Sousa.

"I'm only on-loan until January and I have spoken to him about that and he knows that I want to stay at the club," he said. "It's a club I love so I'd like to finish my career there. Hopefully I can get back in the side, get a few goals and secure that."

"This is the fittest I've been," he added. "As I've got a bit older I've got to work hard off the field because I want to play for as long as possible."

Swansea are currently third in the Championship, five points off the top of the table. Trundle admitted that much had changed at the club since he left in 2007 and was delighted with the improved facilities.

Change

"It's changed for the better," he said. There's the new training ground and new facilities off the pitch and I think this is the highest position we've been in in 26 years. So it's going well on the field."

Many have attributed Swansea's success on the pitch to Sousa's meticulous attention to detail and Trundle revealed that nothing was overlooked on the playing side.

He said: "We get a sheet with the strengths and weaknesses of the players we're up against and we get a video of them as well so he's very thorough.

"If you read the sheet too much you can get scared a bit because they do go a bit overboard! But that's just to keep us on our toes.

"Every player is different so you take what you need from it. Some people like to look at it to see who they're up against and others will have a little look but will worry more about their own game."
