Just a big kid!
To point a magnum ice cream at him and say '44p Magnum, the most powerful ice cream in the world' and then 'you feeling licky punk!' It was terrible!

Paul Kaye
Quotes of the week

Actor Paul Kaye first came to our attention as Dennis Pennis, the character he had created to torment various celebrities in front of a camera for our amusement.

The brilliant Pennis would target stars at movie premieres and other press functions where he would attempt to 'interview' them with hilarious consequences.

His victims ranged from British TV presenters to Hollywood actors and included names such Hugh Grant, Des Lynam, Kevin Costner and Demi Moore.

Kaye told Soccer AM that Pennis gave him the chance to be the child he always wanted to be.

"It was like a second adolescence," he said. "It was nice to feel like the naughtiest school boy in the world at 32.

"It only lasted a year and I did three half hour shows, but it was great because I always dreamt of being naughty at school, but I never was, so I had to wait until later in life."

Heroes

Kaye revealed that although all celebrities were fair game he would often struggle when he came face to face with one of his heroes.

"I wouldn't do any Arsenal players," he said. "But it was difficult because [there were] people like Clint Eastwood, who I had waited all my life to meet and then to point a magnum ice cream at him and say '44p Magnum, the most powerful ice cream in the world' and then 'you feeling licky punk!' It was terrible!"

Steve Martin

In 1996 he famously asked comedian and actor Steve Martin; 'How come you're not funny anymore,' and although at the time he admitted he regretted asking this question, Kaye said he no longer felt as bad because of Martin's recent roles in films, Pink Panther and Sergeant Bilko.

"I couldn't think of anything else to say", he said. "We weren't expecting him he just sort of showed up. But post Clouseau and Bilko I don't feel quite as bad about it as I did then, because anybody who thinks they can outdo those films needs a bit of a kick."
