Chris Holder was named rider of the night, despite Poole Pirates' 48-45 defeat to Belle Vue Aces in Monday's top-of-the table Elite League meeting.
The Poole rider piled up 16+1 points for the Pirates, dropping his only point in heat one, but his heroics were in vain as Belle Vue moved into first place with a slender victory.
The highlight of Holder's individual performance came in heat 13 when he overcame a poor start and powered to a much needed win.
But a mechanical failure for Brady Kurtz in heat 14 proved costly for the visitors and Poole's promoter Matt Ford admits his team must now settle for a place in the play-offs.
Ford said: "We ran them close and had it not been for Brady's misfortune then we might well have been in contention still for top spot. But now we will have to wait to be told who we are riding in the semi-finals.
"We could still claim that fourth title, if we up our game all round. We have yet to all click on the same night this year, perhaps the play-offs will be the perfect time to do so."
