Reid: Job not for him
It has emerged that Peter Reid rejected the chance to take over the vacant manager's position at Bury.
The Shakers are still continuing their search for an experienced manager to replace Chris Casper, who was sacked nearly two weeks ago.
Former Sunderland and Manchester City boss Reid turned down the opportunity of an official interview for the post after being approached by director Ian Harrop.
Caretaker boss Chris Brass will continue to lead the team in this weekend's FA Cup fourth round clash at Southampton as the board prepare to draw up another shortlist of half a dozen names.
Former England international Reid, who played for Bury briefly in the mid-90s and has been out of work since leaving Coventry in 2005, told the Bury Times: "I had a good chat with the people at Bury, but decided the job wasn't for me."
"We never offered him the job," Harrop said. "That decision is not solely up to me. The appointment will be a board decision, and I am simply compiling a list to bring to the table."
As the search continues numerous people have been linked with the job.
Former Shakers defender Alan Knill, who is currently assistant manager at Chesterfield, looks to be a top contender as he watched the 2-2 draw with Bradford midweek.
Brass will also be in contention for the role after doing a sterling job since taking temporary charge.
"Chris will be considered because he has done very well," Harrop said. "People see things differently and the way he has brought Dale Stephens through might have surprised a few people."
Chris Hutchings, who has been assisting Brass in training this week, Ronnie Jepson, Steve McMahon, Steve Burr and Neil McDonald are also believed to be in the frame.
