Nicky Butt is keen to do his former Manchester United team-mates a favour when Chelsea travel to St James' Park on Monday.

Newcastle can have a major say in the tight Premier League title race, with the Blues and Butt's old team currently locked on 81 points with just two games remaining.

United welcome West Ham to Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime, before Chelsea head to the North East on Monday afternoon, with both games being shown live on Sky Sports 1 and HD1.

And while former England midfielder Butt's first priority is to continue the Magpies' recent resurgence under Kevin Keegan, he would be happy to aid United in their quest to regain the Premier League crown.

Incentive

Butt told the Daily Express: "For any game at St James' Park the fans wouldn't let us rest on our laurels.

"There is always an incentive to get a result, especially when we're at home in front of our own supporters, but when you're up against one of the big teams you definitely want to show that you can go out and compete with them.

"I've got a lot of friends at United who I still speak to and so it would be an added bonus if I could do it for them as well.

"The text will come flying in, but obviously they have their own things to look at and their destiny is still very much in their own hands.

"Most important is that we make sure we finish the season strongly.

"We have the right people in place now, the right manager and right coaching staff and obviously we have some good players."
