Dubai Investment Group has confirmed it is not involved in any negotiations to buy Newcastle United and does not have any plans to do so in the future.

Current Magpies owner Mike Ashley revealed in a statement on Sunday his plans to sell the club after he came in for fierce criticism from fans following the departure of former manager Kevin Keegan.

Dubai Investment Group, which is a member of Dubai Holding, was linked with an approach for the Tyneside club on Tuesday evening; however the investment firm has moved to dispel the reports.

A statement said: "Following incorrect media speculation about Newcastle Football Club, Dubai Investment Group can confirm that it is not involved in any negotiations to buy Newcastle Football Club, nor does it plan to do so in the future."
