Paul Jewell remains hopeful that Mile Sterjovski's proposed move to Derby will still be completed despite problems obtaining a work permit for the player.

The Australian international midfielder is set to arrive in London on Wednesday to find out whether his application to move to England has been successful.

An 18-month deal between the Rams and Sterjovski's Turkish club Genclerbirligi has already been agreed and only the paperwork is now preventing the move from going through.

Convoluted process

"This ridiculous bureaucracy frightens me to death to be honest, so we are just hoping it goes our way," Derby boss Jewell said.

"We are going to go to Soho Square on Wednesday, I am going to go myself, to appeal his work permit and hopefully we will be successful in that.

"I don't know what the problem is because he has more caps for Australia than Mark Viduka or Harry Kewell.

"It is such a convoluted process. If it goes our way then he will have to come over from Turkey to pick up his work permit before going back to Turkey and then coming back here again. It is ridiculous."

Carroll deal

Jewell also confirmed that he is still hoping to sign former Manchester United keeper Roy Carroll from Rangers.

The SPL leaders have made it clear that they will not release the Northern Ireland international until they have found a replacement, but the Rams boss remains hopeful that he will get his man before the transfer window closes.

"It is one I have been trying to work on but it is taking its time," he said.

"There might be some more news at the end of this week."
