Paul Sturrock is hoping to keep Sunderland defender Russell Anderson at Plymouth Argyle for another month.

Anderson has made seven Championship appearances for Plymouth since moving to Home Park in February.

He has returned to Sunderland to discuss a possible extension, and Pilgrims boss Sturrock is awaiting a positive answer.

"I would like to keep him and he has been up there today talking to Roy Keane," Sturrock told the club's official website.

Dedicated

"It is a difficult one for him because his wife and two kids are up there. He has trained with Sunderland today and, all being well, he will come back down on Wednesday, so at least he has had a couple of days with his family.

"He has been dedicated to the cause. For a loan player to commit himself, stay on his own down here and give us the performances he has, shows you the model professional the boy is.

"I know what it is like when your wife and kids are up there, so he has that to mull over in his mind."

Meanwhile, Plymouth have released defender Martin Watts, with the teenager moving on to Truro City after failing to make a first-team appearance under Sturrock.
