Mark McCammon admits it was a 'tough decision' to leave Doncaster Rovers for Gillingham.

The striker has signed a three-year contract to drop down to League Two level with Gillingham, despite being offered terms to stay at Championship new boys Doncaster.

McCammon had been a long-term target of Gills boss Mark Stimson and he is confident he has made the right choice in moving to Priestfield Stadium.

"It's a compliment to me that I was chased by the manager and I'm hoping that I can show that he made the right decision," McCammon told Kent Online.

Great opportunity

"Gillingham offered me a good deal and they're heading in the right direction. The manager wants to get promotion and it's a great opportunity for me.

"It was a tough decision as they (Doncaster) offered me another year.

"I had a few options, but the Gillingham manager told me what I wanted to hear. He, like me, wants promotion and I'll be giving my all.

"I didn't want to join a struggling team and there are some ambitious people here like the manager and the chairman and I wanted to be involved."
