Huddersfield prop forward John Skandalis has made his last appearance in Super League and will leave the Giants at the end of the season to return to Australia.

Skandalis, 32, is currently sidelined with a knee injury which required immediate surgery.

He joined the Giants from Wests Tigers two years ago and has not been offered a new contract.

"The club and myself have agreed it's time to move on," he said. "This has been a great experience and challenge.

No regrets

"I've no regrets at all about coming here. It's probably the best decision I've ever made."

Huddersfield managing director Richard Thewlis added: "John has been great for the club and we got exactly what we wanted with his signature.

"Both on and off the field he has been a model professional and it will be sad to see him move on.

"I guess the most disappointing aspect for the supporters and for John is that he has played his last game in the claret and gold as the knee injury won't clear before the season is over."

Youth role

Skandalis will return to Wests Tigers to take up a youth development role, although he has not yet decided to retire.

He added: "I'll be working with the Tigers back home, I'm not sure if I'll still be playing - that remains to be seen!

"I've got a job set up for me where I will be working with some of the younger teams and I'm really looking forward to the prospect of that."
