Castleford have agreed to release prop Michael Korkidas from his contract.

The Australian-born Greek international still had another year left on his current deal but has been allowed to leave the Jungle with immediate effect.

Korkidas played 22 times for the Tigers last year, scoring one try, after joining the Super League new boys from relegated Salford.

However, coach Terry Matterson has dramatically overhauled his squad since the club finished bottom at the end of the regular season.

A total of nine new faces have been bought in ahead of the 2009 campaign after Castleford were awarded a Super League licence for the next three years.

Korkidas could now be set to return to former club Wakefield, where he spent three seasons. Huddersfield Giants are also rumoured to be interested.
