Skysports.com understands that Manchester City have won a work-permit for Ecuadorian international Felipe Caicedo.

The 19-year-old forward is now free to seal his move to the City of Manchester Stadium on a four-and-a-half year contract.

City struck a deal with Caicedo's current club Basel believed to be worth 7million euros (£5.2million).

City have beaten a host of clubs, including Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Milan and Juventus to Caicedo's signature.

Sven Goran Eriksson has moved for Caicedo after allowing Georgios Samaras and Rolando Bianchi to leave the club on loan.

Eriksson is also hoping to confirm the signing of Portsmouth's Benjani later on Thursday.
