Samassa: Replacement for Cisse
Marseille have completed the signing of Mamadou Samassa from Ligue 1 rivals Le Mans, subject to a medical.
The former France Under 21 international is seen as a direct replacement for Djibril Cisse, who recently joined Premier League outfit Sunderland on a season-long loan deal.
The talented striker is expected to undergo a medical at Stade Velodrome on Tuesday, completing the formalities of the switch.
Le Mans president Henri Legarda was reluctant to part with the 22-year-old, but feels the deal has benefited all parties.
"The transfer of Mamadou Samassa represents the best solution for club and the player," he told the club's official website.
"We have encountered difficulties extending his contract and there was no guarantee that he would be first-choice here this season.
"Based on these points, and from the moment Marseille made a suitable offer, this was the best decision.
"I therefore wish Mamadou all the best in his new challenge.
"It is up to clubs like Le Mans to train and nurture young talent before they leave to join the big clubs. That is what we have once again managed to do with Mamadou."
