Stockport jubilation

Stockport County secured their first victory at Wembley in five attempts to gain promotion to League One after a three-year absence.

Jim Gannon's men deserved their 3-2 triumph over North West counterparts Rochdale after spells of excellent passing football at the home of English football.

So what now for Stockport? Will Gannon have to significantly strengthen to ensure they can retain their new status next season?

And what of Rochdale? How big a psychological blow will their play-off defeat be to their plans for next term? Do they have it in them to go one better and claim automatic promotion in the 2008/09 campaign?

Well done to Stockport and Rochdale a very entertaining game and some well taken goals. It brightened up a wet bank holiday monday.

Alan Molyneux (Liverpool fan) says...

Although a Liverpool season ticket holder living on Merseyside, I get to a few Rochdale games with a work colleague. I was at Wembley today, and have to congratulate Stockport on a deserved win, and also wish them well in League 1. Hopefully Rochdale can join them there next season. If just 10% of the Rochdale fans at Wembley who don't normally attend games become regulars, then their prospects will improve no end.

Welldone County we all knew you could do it, after the hard years since leaving the second flight things are looking up again. Derek Kevin and George Best would be proud of you. With a little bit of luck we will be doing it again at the end of next season
