Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes Cesc Fabregas could become the 'best midfielder in the world'.

Wenger signed the Spaniard from Barcelona in 2003 when he was just 16-years-old.

Fabregas has developed at a startling rate since his switch, and is now a vital member of Wenger's starting XI.

And after another impressive campaign at Arsenal, Wenger is backing the PFA Young Player of the Year to become the world's greatest midfielder.

"I believe a midfielder's best years are usually between 24-years-old and 30," Wenger said at Nike's The Cesc Fabregas Show, which can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 on Monday.

"He is four or five years ahead of a normal player at the moment; that tells you how far he can go.

"So long as he does not suffer any major injuries, he could certainly be the best midfielder in the world.

"He gets you in touch with the true beauty of football, and the deep aspects of the game."

Cycle

Wenger also reiterated his plans to mastermind a Premier League title charge next season, explaining that time is on his team's side.

"The aim for next season is to win, but of course the Premier League is of a high level," said the Frenchman.

"You cannot not perform for the entire 90 minutes in Premier League matches.

"We are at the start of a cycle, it is important we continue to grow up together and stay together"
