Bolton Wanderers have taken Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge on loan for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old goes straight into Owen Coyle's squad for Wednesday's game against Wolverhampton Wanderers after agreeing a switch to the Reebok Stadium.

Sturridge was set to find first-team opportunities at Chelsea even harder to come by with the Blues set to sign Liverpool's Fernando Torres on transfer deadline day.

And after failing to land Arsenal's Carlos Vela, who went to West Bromwich Albion, Coyle has managed to bolster his attacking options as he looks to guide the Trotters to a top-half finish in the Premier League.

Excited

"It's been a very busy but exciting day," Sturridge told Bolton's official website. "I found out that the club were interested in me over the weekend and everything has happened pretty quickly.

"I left my home at 5.30am this morning to drive up here and have my medical. Everything has gone well and I'm looking forward to playing some football for Bolton Wanderers.

"Obviously the club offers me the opportunity to play regular football and the manager has spoke very highly - he has made me want to join the club with the things that he has said.

"I've been told by a few people how great the club is and I obviously know the North West area from when I was at Manchester City, so I don't think it will be a problem settling in here."

Advice

Sturridge revealed he sought advice from Arsenal star Jack Wilshere - who enjoyed a loan spell at Bolton last season - before agreeing to join the Lancashire club.

"I'm good friends with Jack and he told me all about the club too," he added. "He said how much he had enjoyed his time here and how good the set-up was. I'm friends with Fabrice Muamba through England and there are other players here who I have known for years as well.

"Bolton have got some big games coming up and hopefully I can play my part in helping the club move forward. The aim in the next 14 games is to win plenty of points and move the club higher up the table and hopefully the goals will come as part of that.

"It's all about helping the team move up the table and I can't wait to get started now."
