Peterborough United have announced that manager Darren Ferguson has signed a new four-year contract with the club.

Ferguson, son of Manchester United boss Sir Alex, took over at London Road in 2007 and has won 68 of his 125 games in charge of the side.

The Scot has steered the Posh to back-to-back promotions and is currently planning for the new season in the Championship.

Reports had linked Ferguson with a move to West Bromwich Albion and Reading this summer but he has now committed to Peterborough.

Ferguson told the club's official website: 'I am absolutely delighted. I spoke with the chairman and we talked about a lot of things.

"We knew we would discuss the contract and not only that, it was important that my staff were rewarded for their efforts. We are all delighted, they are exciting times at this football club.

"I have always said I am happy here, I have said before that I believe there is unfinished business here and the aim now is to try and get into the Premier League."

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony added: "It was something that we have spoken about since March, it wasn't urgent, but it was important for us to get it sorted.

"There was a lot of speculation over the summer, but Darren never wanted to leave. He didn't want to speak to West Bromwich Albion, he wants to go up with us.

"I am a realist, if a top club comes in then we have to think about it, but I am hoping that everybody will leave us alone and let us get promoted to the Premier League.

"It is the easiest negotiation I have ever done to be fair, we only spoke for about 10 minutes on the contract before we shook hands.

"I am delighted that it has been done and dusted and I am sure the supporters are pleased with this news."

Assistant manager Kevin Russell, goalkeeping coach Andy Dibble, physiotherapist Keith Oakes and strength and conditioning coach Scott Taylor have also agreed new deals.
