Becchio: In-form striker
On-loan Leeds defender Andy O'Brien admits everyone at the club is hoping Luciano Becchio will put pen-to-paper on a new contract.
The Argentinian striker has been in scintillating form for the Whites this season, scoring 11 goals in 21 appearances so far.
Becchio moved to Elland Road on a free transfer back in 2008 and has gone on to become a fans' favourite in West Yorkshire.
However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, there are concerns as to why a new deal has yet to be agreed.
The 26-year-old bagged a brace to earn his side a 2-1 comeback win over Crystal Palace in the Championship on Saturday, and team-mate O'Brien admits he is highly regarded.
"Luciano's coming into form which, when you're out of contract, is great," he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
"Everyone at Leeds is hoping the club can keep him. He's a decent age and he's one of the top scorers in the Championship. People will be looking at him.
"But there's a nucleus of a fantastic team here and some really good players. The future bodes well."
Whites boss Simon Grayson admits that a number of clubs will probably be keeping tabs on Becchio because of his good form, and the talented coach is hoping to keep hold of the hard-working forward.
"I'm sure clubs and scouts - if they've got anything about them - will be taking notice of him, as we are of other players," he added.
"But we're trying to keep our best players and he fits right into that category."
