Southampton moved back into the top two after beating League One champions Brighton & Hove Albion as Swindon Town remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

Walsall and Bristol Rovers picked up a point in their respective battles to stay in the division, while Bournemouth drew in their fight to tie up a play-off spot.

Brighton suffered a first home defeat of the season as goals from David Connolly and Jose Fonte in the last six minutes earned Southampton a 2-1 win at the Withdean Stadium.

Alan Judge and Lee Hughes also scored late goals to boost Notts County's survival hopes thanks to a 2-1 victory away to bottom club Swindon, who are now six points from safety.

Bristol Rovers remain in the relegation zone on goal difference after coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home with nine-man Charlton Athletic.

Walsall are also in the bottom four due to an inferior goal difference to Dagenham & Redbridge following a 1-1 home draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

Bournemouth wasted a golden chance to cement their top-six spot after conceding twice in the last four minutes to draw 2-2 away to 10-man Yeovil Town.

Rochdale's hopes of overhauling Bournemouth suffered a setback after throwing away a 2-1 lead to lose 3-2 at home to mid-table Carlisle United.
