Portsmouth expect their legal battle with Tottenham over goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to be done and dusted by Christmas.

The two clubs have been locked in dispute since the 24-year-old moved from Fratton Park to Stoke City in January 2010 and the Premier League arbitration will hear the case later this year.

Tottenham allegedly paid Portsmouth up front for the double signing of Begovic and Younes Kaboul, only for the former to pull out of a move to White Hart Lane.

Kaboul agreed to the switch and the exchange went through for the same price, but Pompey refused to budge over the excess funds having seen Begovic prefer a move to Stoke.

Spurs are believed to want to recoup £1million back from cash-strapped Pompey, and could have a decision on the matter by Christmas.

"There is a legal process ongoing", Pompey chief executive David Lampitt confirmed to portsmouth.co.uk.

"However, we expect the case to be heard before Christmas. That is all I can say on the subject for legal reasons."
